Even without such a direct comparison I'd say that even $300/yr to have the latest and greatest is on the low end compared to most other hobbies.

Come to that, I have a very poorly-paid friend (he carries things around in a paint factory) who spends the equivalent of at least $300 every month on cigarettes. We all make our own decisions about how to spend the money we have.

I wonder if the Oasis means that Amazon will concentrate only on high end expensive readers now. I hope not. I would never be without a kindle but the cost of the Voyage ( I paid £150 for mine) is about my limit for an Amazon ereader. I can admit if money was no object I'd like an Oasis but it's just too much money to spend on a ereader tied to Amazon as completely the Kindles are.

I'm too wary now of Amazon to spend hundreds of pounds with them anymore.

I see no reason whatsoever to believe that to be the case. They're selling devices at a whole range of different price points, and that can only be good for the customer.

... so apparently a non-UPS labor dispute is delaying my package from Italy in Germany. The strike classed as a "Warning" by the Union and not even a real conflict.
