Checking In:

I read: The entire Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott. It was fun and I highly recommend it.

I bought with HQR free codes Broken, Twisted and Shattered by Cynthia Eden. There is one more book to be released in May.

I bought There is No Such Thing as a Lost Cause by Shelly Fredman which is Book five of the Brandy Alexander series I so enjoy. She's only has it at Amazon for some reason. $2.99 but all her books are worth it. I got a $3 gift card I used for it. Now working toward another one for the sixth book. It's a new survey rewards site.

I still am picking out that next book to read. I tried reading Last Hit by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick but it's so serious and a bit creepy. It's probably more erotic than I prefer these days.

I have read 10 books so far this year! That was in the last two months. It looks like I'm back! There is no fixed schedule with hubby's new job. So he can work 8 hours at any time frame from 0-24 hours so our sleep schedule will not be the same all week. It's going to be a huge change. This coming week he works 4 different shifts Day, Split, Midnight and Evening. He loves his job though and loves working with the boys.

Another author that most people seem to really enjoy for the lighthearted banter is Alice Clayton. I tried her first book and didn't click with her style, but all of her books have a 4.0 or higher average on Goodreads so clearly I'm in the minority. You should be able to find her books at the library also.
Thanks I've put in for my library to purchase one of Tawna Fenske books Marine For Hire. I've put holds on Lauren Layne's Cops series.

On Alice Clayton... even though I own Wallbanger I just couldn't get into it either.

What I like is a series that is just tied together. Thoughtless and Stage Dive are just like that. Where the couples are very close knit in all books. It doesn't feel like 4 books but one big story being told. I love that!

Angst is okay. Too serious would be just dark and sadness with no silver lining.

Okay thanks. I think I have them all. I will have to check.

Are they tied together like band members? I loved how connected all the characters were in the Stage Dive series.

Yes, the heroes are all members of a band called Schoolboy Choir. Except the hero in Rock Hard, he's a rugby player turned businessman. The heroine in Rock Hard is BFFs with the heroine in the first book, Rock Addiction.

The first three books (or two books and a novella) all take place somewhat concurrently, so there are scenes touched on in Rock Addiction that you then see in full in Rock Courtship or Rock Hard and vice versa.

Her Backup Boyfriend (Sorensen Family #1) by Ashlee Mallory
Kindle | Kobo | Google

Quote:
One little white lie leads to more than she planned…

Straight-laced lawyer Kate Matthews always plays by the rules. But when her ex gets engaged and a big promotion is on the line at work, she blurts out that she has a new boyfriend. And now that she's proved she “has a life” outside of work, everything is perfect. Except for one teeny little detail―there is no boyfriend. And now Kate's liable for her little white lie...

Dominic Sorensen is hot, charming, and very definitely not Kate's type. But not only does Dominic want to help Kate renovate her home, he's also willing to play “boyfriend.” All he wants in return is a little pro bono work for his sister. Now instead of Mr. Right, Kate has a delectable Mr. Fix-It-Right―and some unbelievable sexual chemistry. And if falling for Dominic is a breach of contract, Kate is guilty as charged...

Once Upon a Power Play (Risky Business #2) by Jennifer Bonds
Kindle | Kobo

Quote:
Sidelined by a potentially career-ending injury, the only thing hockey player Ryan Douglas should be thinking about is his recovery. But after sharing a near death experience with a spunky brunette, the only thing on his mind is five and a half feet of sexy sarcasm. And he’ll do whatever it takes to get her back in his bed—even if it means playing dirty.

Chloe Jacobs is done with fairytales. And men. She’s kissed her share of frogs and what’s it gotten her? Dumped by text—again. The last thing she needs is a pushy, arrogant hockey player testing her resolve. Especially one who’s sinfully good with his hands and thinks date-by-blackmail is a perfectly acceptable social convention.

Ryan wants to play games? Fine by her, but this is one faceoff he’s going to lose.

Apparently Harlequin is ending their Blaze line in 2017. (possibly to be replaced by a new "super sexy" line that will be digital only).

Also Harlequin Historical and Harlequin Romance will be digital only.

I've just seen authors remarking on the decision on social media. Haven't been able to find an official announcement to link to yet.

(Googling "Harlequin ending Blaze" certainly didn't get me the results I'd anticipated )

The Blaze line is already pretty hot. I've read some that were more erotic than some erotica I've read.

I'm not surprised that they're consolidating a bit. My local Target store stopped carrying the category romances a couple of years ago. I don't know any store locally that does, except maybe WalMart, but I've never been in there to check. I find them at Goodwill with the WalMart stickers on them.

Yeah, the Target here no longer carries them. The grocery stores seemed to have stopped as well. Walmart here carries some of the lines, but not Blaze

I still read some of the Intrigues and Romantic Suspense. And one or two authors in Special Edition. I really miss the old Silhouette Intimate Moments line. I'm still floored it was one apparently one of their worst selling lines. They had so many great authors and books in the late 80's and 90s.

SIM was one of the worst selling lines? I LOVED those. Had shelves full of them. Even in my purging of old stuff, I still have a few. I've also see lots of re-issues of them, especially the Nora Roberts and Kay Hooper ones among others.

That's what some authors on a message board were saying a few years ago. And one of the reasons it was phased out, becoming Romantic Suspense. I give credence to the idea since Harlequin did phase out the line which I doubt they would have done had it been selling well.

I think the fact that there were so many different types of stories: romantic suspense, small town romance, romantic comedy, international romance, etc. meant that many of the readers who subscribed to the various lines didn't like not being sure what they would be getting. Whereas I subscribed to the line for over 25 years and when it was SIM I loved it because of all the variety in settings and story types.

The SIM line was the best. Hands Down. The Blaze line use to be moderately sexy but in the past couple of years it's all pretty much erotic romance so I think this is a smart move for them. I'm surprised that their historical line is going digital only! American Romance is now Western Romance which narrows down the story content. They all weren't cowboys titles. I own quite a few with no cowboys from the American line.

I wonder if they will merge Intrigue with Romantic Suspense next?
