Unlike an inductive touch screen, such as the iLiad has, which is "powered", I don't believe a capacitive touch screen (which is what the PRS-700 appears to have) uses any power.

I never had touch screen before. I have used touch screen only once for a few minutes when a colleague at work demonstrated his latest digital HD sony video camera.
I didn't know that there are two types of t.s. let alone what is a difference between them and why in some devices they use one type and in other devices they use different type of t.s.

Actually, there are even more than two types. The iLiad uses Wacom inductive technology, which requires power (and a special stylus). The eBookwise 1150 uses a resistive touch screen, which uses little power, and will work with a stylus or fingernail, but reduces transparency of the screen to 85%, making it a bad choice for reflective e ink screens. The iPhone uses a capacitive touchscreen, which works well with skin contact, but poorly (if at all) with any kind of stylus, though there may be a stylus that does work with a capacitive screen. There are also stress detection screens, which may be what the Sony 700 is using, as well as audio detection, refraction detection, and several other options. See the Wikipedia article on "touch screens" and "graphics tablets" for more info.

Yesterday my wife as the contact for our elementary school got a promo code for the school to download their free 100 books. The email mentioned that the first 100 schools to register would each get 5 free readers. She registered with the code and downloaded some books.

We are hoping that she did it soon enough. But, she didn't see the email for 7 hours after they had sent it. Hopefully since it was sent out on a Sunday many didn't get to it yet. But, with 10,000 emails going out being one of the first 100 after 7 hours is probably pretty slim hope.

But, I will let every one know if Sony does contact her to let us know our school is getting free readers.

Me too. Great for Sony to be donating eBook readers. In fact they ought to do that routinely. Then sit back and make a bundle on the book sales. They have with me!

You are an awesome finger crosser. My wife told me yesterday that Sony contacted her. The elementary school that she works/volunteers at is getting 5 free Sony PRS505 Readers.

YEA!

They already have plans to let the Battle of the Books team use them.

So, the school received the readers this week. I told my wife to bring me home one. I want to try out all the ePub support, PDF reflow and stuff on it that I've never been able to try.
