Primal Fear is the first in the Martin Vail series by William Diehl. It is free again at Amazon US. Looks as if it goes free from time-to-time, but for only a short time each time, so grab it fast if you haven't already.

A bunch of books in the Melanie Travis series by Laurien Berenson have recently dropped somewhat at Kindle US. I'm swamped right now and don't have time to do individual links/blurbs, or figure out what is a recent price drop and what's long-term, and whether there have been better prices in the recent past, but here is a price-ascending link to Laurien Berenson, and you can take a look for yourself and see if there are any titles in there at prices you'll pay!

Sainsburys have got a 'today only' 99p sale of all the James Patterson 'Private' series.

Note, the books are showing as 4.99 for me (except one of the titles which is 99p) when I click on their supplied link, so I don't know what's going on. Anyway those interested may find that Amazon UK and/or Kobo UK match.

The email I got about it shows the following books are 99p:
Private
Private London
Private Games
Private No1 Suspect
Private Berlin
Private Down Under
Private LA
Private India

Switcheroo is the 18th in the excellent (IMO) Gideon Oliver series by Aaron Elkins. It has dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US, no idea why or for how long.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Switcheroo-Gid...dp/B011C9LPK6/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The Skeleton Detective is back.

A cold case dating from the 1960s draws forensic anthropologist Gideon Oliver to the Channel Islands decades later to shine a light on the mysterious connection between two men who died there on the same night.

Swapped as young boys by their fathers during the Nazi occupation, wealthy Roddy Carlisle and middle-class George Skinner had some readjusting to do after the war ended—but their lives remained linked through work, trouble with the law, and finally, it would seem, through murder.

Nobody expects that Gideon’s modern-day investigation will turn up fresh bodies. But old bones tell many tales, and the Skeleton Detective has to be at his sharpest to piece together the truth before the body count mounts still higher.

Declared “a series that never disappoints” by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Gideon Oliver mystery series is highly recommended for fans of Agatha Christie and Kathy Reichs.

A Detective in Love is the second title in HRF Keating's lesser known Harriet Martens series. It was briefly free back in the summer of 2015, and is now a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 5 1/2 more days.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Detective-Love...dp/B00YPH9ORE/

Spoiler:
Quote:
DCI Harriet Martens is nicknamed the Hard Detective. But for Harriet, love proves more dangerous than any of her cases…

Britain’s number one tennis star, the beautiful Bubbles Xingara, has been murdered in the grounds of her luxurious house.

Harriet is now in charge of a case that will have the world’s media — already massing for the start of Wimbledon — out in force. But it is not the investigation that is about to explode Harriet’s life. Nor the string of murder suspects.

For it seems that the happily married Hard Detective has fallen passionately in love with a fellow officer.

As her obsession with Anselm Brent – her junior officer – develops, can she keep her eye on this high-profile case while navigating the chopping waters of a new, and secret, liaison?

What further challenges are facing this troubled ‘Detective in Love’?

And can she still catch her prey?

A Detective in Love’ is a gripping crime thriller from a master of the genre.

Pago Pago Tango is the first in the Jungle Beat mystery series by John Enright. It was a Samsung Book Deal freebie a couple of years ago; sadly I have to admit that it has not yet made it to the top of my ever-shifting TBR list, although looking at it again, I think I want to move it up. In any case, it has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US. Per SYKM, it was a finalist for the 2013 Barry Award for Best Paperback.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Pago-Tango-Jun...dp/B007VPZOXK/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Detective Sergeant Apelu Soifua spent seven years in the San Francisco Police Department, where the job was just a job and solving crimes required cool detachment. But back home on American Samoa, life is personal—especially for a cop. Because on a small island where no one is a stranger and secrets are widely known but never discussed, solving crimes requires a certain…finesse.

Here, Apelu must walk the line between two cultures: Samoan versus American, native versus new. And that gulf never yawns wider than when a white family’s home in Pago Pago is burglarized. And what appears to be a simple, open-and-shut case turns out to anything but. As the evidence piles up, Apelu follows a tangled trail between cultures, dead bodies, hidden codes, and a string of lies on his hunt for the ugly truth buried at the heart of paradise.

Set against the steamy backdrop of the Samoan jungle, this thoughtful whodunit introduces a memorable new gumshoe to the ranks of detective fiction.

A few other price drops:

Accidents Waiting to Happen is a non-series title by Simon Wood. It has dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Accidents-Wait...dp/B007GFGQUU/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Josh Michaels isn’t wanted dead or alive—just dead. That fact becomes shockingly clear when a stranger runs his car off the road. Instead of a helping hand, the man gives Josh a “thumbs down” and abandons him to what is almost certainly a watery grave. Luckily, Josh cheats death…this time. But when more harrowing “accidents” threaten his life, it’s clear he’s a marked man.

Are his past mistakes coming back to bite him? Or is something more sinister afoot? And how can he convince his family, friends, and especially the cops that he’s in danger? The harder Josh fights to stay alive, the more determined his unknown enemy is to see him dead. And the deeper he digs for answers, the more chilling the truth becomes. As his time and luck rapidly run out, he must unmask an insidious conspiracy bent on making a killing—in more ways than one.

Nerve-jangling noir doesn’t get much blacker than Simon Wood’s top speed trip into cold-blooded murder and hot-blooded vengeance.

Enter the Saint is a collection of three novellas (per SYKM) in the Saint series by Leslie Charteris. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Enter-Saint-Le...dp/B00I0I02ZW/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Simon Templar tangles with the notorious “Snake” Ganning, tracks down a stash of stolen jewels, and busts a drug-smuggling racket. He may not always stay on the right side of the law, but with his swashbuckling charm and Robin Hood morality, he is clearly on the side of the angels.

The Cybelene Conspiracy is the second in the Getorius and Arcadia Asterlus series by Albert Noyer. It has dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Cybelene-Consp...dp/B0061MWL2G/
Spoiler:
Quote:
A eunuch archpriest and an unscrupulous senator smuggle products from China to Italy that will change the course of western history.Surgeon Getorius Asterius, his wife Arcadia, the eunuch archpriest of a pagan fertility cult, the female head of a heretical Arian church, and an ambitious senator in league with a Chinese merchant: these are the prime movers in this mystery set in Ravenna, Italy, in A.D. 440. When Getorius is summoned to examine the castrated body of a youth found by Thecla in her Arian church, who is the sobbing "Vestal Virgin" nearby? Why is the senator smuggling counterfeit Western coins to the Eastern Empire, and contraband Chinese products back to Ravenna? Thecla's coded message leads to a secret tunnel and the sinister temple of Cybele, whose devotees are self-mutilated eunuchs. In a stunning climax, the conspirators try to escape Ravenna, planning to sell one product in Egypt, but failing to recognize the far more deadly nature of the other.

The House of Evidence is a non-series title by Viktor Arnar Ingolfsson, translated into English via the AmazonCrossing imprint, many of whose translated titles I've quite enjoyed. It has dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US.
link: http://www.amazon.com/House-Evidence...dp/B005OBXNEK/
Spoiler:
Quote:
On a cold January morning in 1973, inside a stately old house in Reykjavik, blood pools around Jacob Kieler Junior from a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. Detective Jóhann Pálsson, an expert in the emerging field of forensics, is called to the scene and soon discovers something more unsettling than the murder itself: the deceased’s father, Jacob Kieler Senior, a railroad engineer, was shot to death in the same living room nearly thirty years earlier. The case was officially closed as a botched robbery.

Pálsson soon uncovers diaries that portray Kieler Senior as an ambitious man dedicated to bringing the railroad to Iceland no matter the cost. Sensing a deeper and darker mystery afoot, the detective and his colleagues piece together through the elder Kieler’s diaries a family history rich with deceit…

The three currently available titles (a fourth is due in August) in the Long Beach Homicide series by Taylor Dilts have all dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US.

A King of Infinite Space, #1
link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00395ZYY0
Spoiler:
Quote:
Long Beach, California, homicide detective Danny Beckett is pouring the weekend’s first shot of vodka when the call comes in: Elizabeth Williams, a teacher at nearby Warren High School, has been brutally murdered in her classroom. When Danny arrives at the school, the blood-spattered crime scene turns even his veteran stomach. What could this young woman have done to make her the target of such a violent attack? And what is the significance of the victim’s left hand, taken by the killer as a grisly trophy? Beckett delves into the case with his usual tenacious cool, yet as he pieces together the facts, long-suppressed anguish from his own past rises up with stunning force. His hunt for the murderer soon morphs into a personal quest for atonement as he struggles to come to terms with the loss of his wife and family. A King of Infinite Space is a riveting crime novel that serves as a memorable introduction for Danny Beckett to the ranks of fiction’s favorite hardened detectives.

The Pain Scale, #2
link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0089LQNFS
Spoiler:
Quote:
Long Beach homicide detective Danny Beckett returns from a year-long medical leave badly scarred and in constant pain, yet determined to prove he still has what it takes to do the job. He gets his chance when a call comes in that shocks even the toughest guys in the squad room: A California congressman’s daughter-in-law and grandchildren have been brutally murdered in their upscale home. At first glance, it looks like a robbery gone wrong, but Danny’s not so sure. Something doesn’t quite add up. With state and local law enforcement in an uproar and the media circling like vultures, the pressure’s on for Danny and his partner, Jennifer Tanaka, to solve this one. Too much is at stake…and not just politically. Even if they manage to crack the case, there’s no guarantee the stress won’t derail Danny’s recovery. Because while the doctors can treat his physical pain, no one can erase the agony of the past that haunts every step he takes—and threatens to destroy his career once and for all.

A Cold and Broken Hallelujah, #3
link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IMOUZCO
Spoiler:
Quote:
On a sweltering September night, Long Beach Homicide Detective Danny Beckett is called to a grisly crime scene at the mouth of the Los Angeles River. A defenseless homeless man has been burned to death by three teenagers with gang ties. The suspects are already in custody, and the evidence is overwhelming—but when one suspect’s brother is targeted for murder, Danny starts to think there may be more to this seemingly clear-cut case. Obsessed with discovering the true identity of the victim, a gentle vagrant who may have been hiding a tortured past, Danny and his team start to uncover a high-reaching conspiracy that puts them all at risk—and threatens to open new wounds that could cut even deeper than Danny’s old ones.

Amazon AU daily deal has the first 5 of the Morgue Drawer Four mysteries by Jutta Profijt on sale at AUD99 cents. Link to Book 1 in the series)

Amazon states that Morgue Drawer Four was shortlisted for Germany's 2010 Friedrich Glauser Prize for best crime novel.

Blurb (book 1)
Spoiler:
Coroner is the perfect job for Dr. Martin Gänsewein, who spends his days in peace and quiet autopsying dead bodies for the city of Cologne. Shy, but scrupulous, Martin appreciates his taciturn clients--until the day one of them starts talking to him.

It seems the ghost of a recently deceased (and surprisingly chatty) small-time car thief named Pascha is lingering near his lifeless body in drawer number four of Martin's morgue.

He remains for one reason: his "accidental" death was, in fact, murder. Pascha is furious his case will go unsolved--to say nothing of his body's dissection upon Martin's autopsy table. But since Martin is the only person Pascha can communicate with, the ghost settles in with the good pathologist, determined to bring the truth of his death to light.

Now Martin's staid life is rudely upended as he finds himself navigating Cologne's red-light district and the dark world of German car smuggling.

Unless Pascha can come up with a plan--and fast--Martin will soon be joining him in the spirit world.

Amazon UK: not on special (Actually I've just realised Amazon is blocking me seeing the ebook price!)
Amazon CA: not on special
Amazon US: all 5 books USD75 cents

Kobo AU doesn't have this author, but maybe other Kobo countries do. (I haven't read this author/books but am going to give them a try!)
