Amazon announces Kindle Oasis

I suspect that the reviewer may have had a pre-production model. I feel that if the cover also have a USB port, it would be explicitly mentioned somewhere in the Amazon web pages or user manual.

Ya know, I was thinking that if Amazon made an ereader of uniform thickness, they could put a larger battery inside, thereby negating the need for a separate battery pack

Mind you, it's just a thought and might be too radical to introduce at this time

I am wondering why it would be explicitly mentioned.
If I recall, the Oasis comes with the Oasis, the Charging Cover and a USB cable.
My thinking is the word Charging in the cover says it all.
I do not know of a charger that ever says it has a USB port.
It is implied.

My Kindle 7 docking station has a USB charging port, so I hope Amazon added one to the Oasis' docking station. It's the logical thing to do.

I quote him

Das 107 Gramm wiegende Cover hat keine eigene Ladebuchse, es wird direkt über den eBook Reader geladen.

Translation : The 107 gramms Cover does not have its own charger port, it is charged through the Ebook Reader itself.

This phrase appears 4 lines before the video on his website which I have linked. Lesen.net is a reknown e-reading website in German, and Johannes always works very thoroughly. It would be the first time I catch him making a mistake, and I doubt this very much.

There is a good video also, made while Johannes was sitting with Amazon employees and presenting the Oasis in German. Johannes shows the three covers well, and there is no usb port indeed to be seen (I've watched it 3 times).

Unless the European Version is not the same as the US one, I'd say no usb port on the cover.

The charging cover charges the Oasis. It doesn't need a USB port in order to get charged itself, since it can be charged while docked to the Oasis via the 5-pin charging contacts.

It makes more sense for both devices (Oasis and battery cover) to have USB charging ports.

I will go with you pre-production (gamma) model part.

Someone in the field probably pointed out that Amazon would be missing an opportunity to SELL a standalone cover-charge adapter

How can the Case Protect the Reader from falls when it does Not Fully Cover the Device? Isnt that the Main reason to buy a case to begin with?

I agree with the ambiguous wording. The first page says you can use the usb cable to charge the kindle and the charging station. It does not say together or separate.

If I opened a covered Oasis and held it by the front cover with the ereader dangling at the end, are the magnets strong enough to keep it firmly attached or will it slip off, hit the ground, and break?

I've seen a few videos where people do that and it seems to hold.
