No, it's no bother at all, I'm glad you reported it. Not many inexperienced users would have the resources for recovery that you did. No, localization will have to revert to tested xml files only, if a simple xml error can cause a hard brick. PRSCustomizer 1.5 depreciated.

hi jeff,

i received a new sony reader 505 (the red one) and wanted to customize that one as well. everything works except for english to change into dutch.

i'm using the 1.05a version.

Hi Julia,

Please read upthread a bit, I've depreciated 1.05 and 1.05a. Please use 1.04.

well that's what i did actually.
didn't realize that 'depreciated' meant not working ...
must be the language barrier that gets in the way once in a while i guess

I apologize Julia, 'depreciated' is computer buzz-word speak that I usually try to avoid. In plain English (my only language) 1.05* is broken, broken,broken. With firmware 1.1 and 1.2 it can leave your USB non-functional in some cases (I confirmed this 5 or 6 times, then suddenly USB worked again). If you edit user_language, malformed XML could leave your Reader bricked.

i'm happy with what you're doing.
i already liked my sony reader a lot.
and with you guys and dolls on this forum, your programme and the sony in my favourite colour it's even more likable now!

Help!!! My baby!!!

I was trying to Customize the Fonts on my PRS-505. i followed the instructions for the Customizer and copied the Files to the SD Card.

My pervious Flashes have worked just fine, but this time. It began itz
reboot, and then rebooted again and again....

I downloaded the PRS-505 Updater and edited the PRSVersion.dat file.
I run the Updater, i get please connect PRS-505. the update button is
sorta greyed out and it obviously doesn't click to begin.

i can access the reader as a disk drive but thats all. i tried reinserting the
SDcard but the reader just continues the cycle.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!!!

What version of PRSCustomizer and which firmware?

Firmware is US 1.1.00.18040
Customizer is 1.04 win

Two things to try.

1. Paperclip the reset button and immediately hook the Reader to USB. Try the updater.

Or (from the wiki)

# Use a paper clip or pin to depress the reset button in the small hole on the back of the unit. Turn the unit on.

# Wait until the "Starting up..." page is displayed for a few seconds and you see the orange LED blinking. Just count like 3 to 4 sec. from the moment you see the LED blinking.

# Repeat steps 1 and 2 ten times.

# On the tenth reset let the Reader boot and after a few minutes the message "Firmware update is not finished correctly. Please execute firmware update again." will be displayed.

# Connect the USB cable and the device will automatically go into recovery ("Updating firmware now...") mode. At that point, use the Sony updater.

Thanks Jeff!!!! I actually got it to work by hooking it to a Windows NT machine, Formating the Root Drive ( the one with all my books) then restarting the Updater.

The Firmware loaded and she'z all pertiful again!! no more font experiments though!! lol thanks!!!
