Amazon announces Kindle Oasis - Page 58

Something I think they've really got wrong with the cover is the fact that it's only available in real leather. Although I'm not one of them, there's a whole bunch of people out there who object to that and won't touch the Oasis with a bargepole because of it. But of course a pleather cover probably wouldn't quite fit in with the 'premium' marketing thing...

They really should be selling the Oasis and covers separately (with a wider choice of covers too both in terms of materials and colours).
In fact if they really wanted to go with the whole premium thing, you should be able to pick a custom colour for your cover

Now, if they had some flashy colors for the cover, even I could be tempted..

Seriously though, the guys here will love those 3 colors, but I miss the gorgeous colors they had for the PW covers. The orange one was so pretty...

They're still potential customers and Amazon can't argue that the option of a non-leather cover would add any weight

in fact it might even be lighter

I am inclined to agree with you. I'm not one either, but I know several people personally that wouldn't touch it because of the leather.

I'm not clumsy. I'm really just average as far as that goes. And I'm absolutely not careless.

Lots of people put cases on their phones and readers because they recognize that the real world isn't perfect and people occasionally drop things. If you live someplace with a lot of rain and snow, that means things can get wet. I have had tons of friends who have ruined phones by dropping them in snow and puddles - which I have not done, but which is common. This makes me realize that a waterproof cell phone would be awesome too.

When I dropped the reader in the snow, it was in a leather case, not that unlike the one that ships with the Oasis. That offers no protection from puddles and snow. It's also the experience that made me decide to use sleeves instead of covers. Not perfect, but better as far as my needs go.

If you live someplace with different weather than I have, then this might be worth $300. I like a lot of things about it. But I will hold out for a waterproof reader.

Now I have to research waterproof cell phones.

Except they've already got the design for the case, they'd just need to use pleather instead of leather.

Waterproofing would be a different matter, they'd need to make changes to the device, and likely rethink/scrap the whole cover as a battery concept. Not exactly easy to do.

Could Amazon not look around ? Coach, for one, has fantastic colors ! My husband banned me from entering their shops again, because I always, always come out with something.

Pack the Oasis in a series of Coach cover, and I'm in. (I know, it's so sad, I have no willpower....)
