Do you get it now?
Being lighweight and waterproof are not mutuallyexclusive, amazon skimped out on features for maximum profit,i won't support those kind of decisions.

Actually, I'm not trying to justify anything. I'm simply pointing out that you seem more concerned about making sure that other people feel the same way that you do than you do about anything else. Why else would you have suggested a poll in the first place? The only reason I can see is that you feel it will somehow justify you not liking the device.

The other thing that I'm questioning is why in the world you feel as if you need to lead some sort of revolt against Amazon because they made *one device* that you don't like.

You obviously missed my "the voices change" part. That's OK. Clearly you're only interested in what you want people to be saying instead of what they actually are. Carry on. I'll not interrupt your conversation with yourself again.

The best way to get an Oasis for those in the US is to find a shop in Canada that will ship to the US and charge in Canadian dollars. The exchange rate is good for the US.

This is not what people wanted from a new top of the line ereader, not to say it in itself is a terrible product but amazon have missed the ball on this one.

Your being the vocal minority not 'us'
Um hi.
I answered no. BUT. I did not answer no because it is a terrible product or because it doesn't have the features. For what it is, it looks good. It is just I have no need for this product at this time.
Several reasons people would answer no.
It might be the cost.
It may be not what one needs.
It might be they don't want a divorce. (Honey, you have enough devices.)
It might be revamping a kitchen and am sinking money into that.
Heck, it might be all of the above.
Or it could be plumbers and dryers are not cheap.

My response was "maybe". No, I am not in the market for a new kindle now. I like my PW2 and for the most part it suits my needs just fine. At this point, I don't feel the need to spend on the order of $300 for the Oasis, not when a PW3 or perhaps a Voyage would suit me just fine. However, you never know, I might decide at some point in the future that I might really like a lighter kindle and therefore might spring for the Oasis.

I don't think you'd come out ahead in that deal. The price difference is all exchange rate.

If the device is too thin to grasp comfortably, then even if it only weighs 1 ounce it will still be unholdable for those with that issue. So no I think the market for the Oasis is more directed at the younger, trendier crowd.
Hmm. I'm 59, with beginning arthritis issues. The point of the Oasis is that the place you hold it IS thicker. You don't hold onto the thinner part. And it is counter balanced so that the weight is there at the holding edge, and it balances in your hand. That seems like a good thing; less gripping required. Oh, and real buttons might be usable with any portion of the thumb (side, tip, etc) rather than just the fingertip that the haptic buttons require.

As to "nobody wants it" .... if you look at the poll in this thread, it is still staying at 25% of us, who might get one. That's not at all a bad percentage, for a high end device!

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the poll results. With all the negative comments about the Oasis, I was afraid I was in a teeny-tiny minority wanting one. At the moment it's about 23% in the "probably-definitely yes" camp, which to me is good company.

With 4 Kindle models being offered (yes! choice is good!) I'm not sure any model would have a majority behind it. I rather guess that's the whole point of offering 4 models — each to fit different needs.

If I were to make a wild, totally unsubstantiated guess, I would throw out:

Kindle (basic): 30%
Paperwhite: 35%
Voyage: 20%
Oasis: 15%

I don't think Amazon's goal was to have everyone dump their basic Kindles, Paperwhites and Voyages and buy an Oasis. That's just silly.

No, you are not alone by a long shot.
It is just the crab in a bucket on the negative comments.

The other thread is saying that "Wine" color (or whatever that color is named) pre-orders are estimated to ship on Sept 2 now. Wowwwww. I guess I might as well wait before I order, because that's the only color worth having.

(Oh yeah, burgundy, isn't it?)
