I'm not getting one. The dealbreaker for me is the price: my upper limit for an ereader is $200USD and my baseline is the PW3 at $120. The voyage tempted me, but I decided against it because the screen is basically the same as the PW3, and the other features are not worth $80 for me.
Now this new device is lighter and its battery last longer, but not really because with the cover it's as light as the voyage, and without the cover its charge probably won't last me more than a couple of days. An it's reasonably priced, because if I bought a Voyage with cover I would pay almost the same, but the thing is, I've never bought a cover for any of my four kindles... so not for me, thanks. This is not to say than nobody should buy it, to each their own; I'm simply not the intended audience for this device. ![]() Last edited by Grey Ram; 04-14-2016 at 04:50 PM. I voted maybe, but not for now. I like that it's a bit different in function. I would need to try one in the store first, to see if it's right for me. Then I would wait for the hands on reviews to come in. Battery life, how the cover holds up ect... By then I would hope the price would come down as well. I'm in no hurry.

I ordered one as an alternative to the Voyage. One of the few who "see" the two-toned screen on them. Had to settle for the PW3, though I wanted the better contrast and brighter screen (with flush glass). Seems this took the place of the Voyage 2 which many were anticipating a few months ago. I'm excited to get this, but not thrilled with the price.

What's the weight of the Oasis with the charging cover ON? Amazon's specs conveniently leave this out.

![]() I was looking at the main chart which has the cover omitted. Thanks! I fly weekly and as silly as it sounds, every gram (no joke) kinda matters. Seems the Voyage + a small slip case will be lighter. Just grabbed a refurb Voyage. That'll do me right. The Voyage (wifi) and Bear Motion slip cover (8 grams) looks to be more portable in a computer bag packed full of stuff since the Oasis cover is required for protection/travel. Voyage: 180g Bear Motion: 8g Total: 188g/.41 pounds Oasis: 131g Cover:107g Total: 238g/.52 pounds (now that I did the math, it's honestly silly. Oh well, the Voyage was cheaper, right?...lol) Last edited by coolbreeze; 04-14-2016 at 06:54 PM. |

To buy or not to buy
I already ordered one. After the initial disappointment of unmet desires I had to ask myself if I wanted the device that is being sold. The answer was yes.
If you are interested, Len Edgerly had a very informative interview with the Kindle Team on Kindle Chronicles. They said color is not ready and left me thinking that it will not be ready for some time. If you are waiting for audio to return -you should listen to this interview-it probably will not come to a Kindle any time soon. They stated one of the driving factors in this device is to get it to approximate paper-weight and thickness and get the device to disappear. They have successfully improved in these areas over the years. I do think they missed several things on this reader: Storage-they need more for some of the heavy users Fonts and formatting Larger form factor-They have not said they will not make a larger device. New screen display info may emerge at SID display week- May 24-26th. I notice many complaining about this device. To my mind you have two good choices if this device is not for you: -Don't buy it -Contact Amazon with your requests- I have and will do this!! In the end we vote with our wallets...I am getting it and will gladly review it. Last edited by Steve H; 04-14-2016 at 07:39 PM. |

I've sent several messages to Kindle CS asking them to consider adding more formatting control, i.e., line and paragraph spacing, indent and justification control, more fonts, etc. I got a boiler-plate reply, but I'll keep on asking.
I see no reason to but a newer Kindle if it uses the same old nearly feature-free software. I can get the results I want by running the books through Calibre and converting them, but it's a nuisance. I'd prefer to adjust it on-the-fly. |

No. But I don't see the poll on tapatalk so I guess I can't vote.

BTW, I'm not defending Amazon...I just asked why you felt the need to "call for a mass exodus from amazon" If you don't like them, that's fine, but I don't understand the hatred, just because they created a device that you don't like? Shari |

hi,
the kindle oasis seems awesome it's awesome for my greasy fingers, but two things: - price - need a protective cover for it a bit like this "http://www.amazon.co.uk/Navitech-Glare-Free-Touchscreen-Leather-Reading-Black-light/dp/B005XXFQ5I" to protect it from medium height falling dmg (e.g. from the nightstand) including if it falls right on the screen side. |

I chose maybe. I'm tempted to try its ergonomic design and by the ability to easily take off the cover while reading, but I'm not sure when or if I will get one. It seems like a step to the side compared to the Voyage, not a step up - better in some ways (namely weight and in-hand comfort) and worse in others. Though I know many here love page turn buttons, those are the biggest turn-off for me about the Oasis compared with the preferable haptic sensors in the Voyage. Also, I do appreciate the reason for it and I don't think I would much notice, but having to flip the device each time I change hands doesn't seem quite as nice as simply handing a device from one to the other.

The formatting controls and microsd storage is what drove me to the Kobo after years with the Kindle. Although I like the Kobo firmware more than the kindle's (love the way it shows you what you have been reading recently and what you've added) I'd gladly go back to the Kindle if they provided more storage and formatting controls.
