Well, I knew that the line would shoot up quickly and I jumped in first thing to buy one. I figured to hold my place in line. There is an even chance I cancel this weekend and go with a paperwhite instead.

Anyway, the point is that my Oasis with walnut cover is still scheduled to arrive on April 27.

My Merlot 3G, no ads has been delayed from 4/27 to 5/4. I ordered within about 2 hours of it going on sale.

Sheesh, I'm not calling for that and I don't get why you infer it. All I'm saying's that the straight up comparison between US and UK prices holds in some locales. Such as mine. If I want an Oasis, I'll pay only $289.99. And get a buck back for choosing slow shipping.

How good is the Voyage's adaptive brightness? I ask because I've had to turn it off on any device I've ever had that touted it as a feature. I was always seeing fluctuations in the lighting whenever I moved the slightest bit. Couldn't deal with it. Made me feel like it was the '60s again. Have they smoothed out the algorithm a bit, or can you still see it change simply by angling the device a millimeter in any direction?

Using the best commercial comparison I know of: about minus 7 grams .
The Kobo H2O is 233 gm and the Kobo Aura HD is 240 gm. Those two devices are likely as similar as you're going to get for a comparison.
And that's on a bigger device which theoretically should mean more weight to waterproof (more area requiring waterproofing).

If I were to buy the device I would consider it a $100 premium. I would not be purchasing a case with a Voyage, so why would I consider what the price of a Voyage + case be when I was comparing to an Oasis.
A comparison would be looking if I was looking at two houses to decide which one to buy. One has a pool and is $50,000 more than the other without a pool. If I want a pool and it's going to cost me $40,000 to put one in if I buy the house without, then there isn't a $50K premium on the one with the pool. If I don't want a pool, then yes the house with one is priced at a $50K premium for me.

I was having lunch out today and reading on my Voyage propped up by its Origami case and realized that the Voyage is really the best device for me.
I read with the stand about 50% of the time or hold it in my lap - never with one hand.
My Voyage has an even white screen that is more than bright enough and since I don't read in the dark the Haptic feedback buttons are fine. I decided I would cancel my order when I got home. I'm usually an early adapter of new tech, but this isn't new tech as much as a new form factor which won't suit my needs.

Shortly after that I got an e-mail from Amazon with my shipping date estimate of 7/15-7/18. Really?? I ordered the WiFi without special offers and Merlot case early yesterday afternoon. Was glad that I had decided to cancel or I would not have been very happy with this info.
