Perhaps consider the possibility that you're just wrong, and it takes a lot more ability and investment at every level for Amazon to make such successful e-readers.

An e-reader does not need to be a market leader for its inherent value to be acknowledged. It is better value for what it offers at it's price than the Oasis at it's price. Resorting to arguments based on market numbers whilst ignoring the various factors that constribute to that situation is simply not done. A wise man does not need explaing why it is so.

I do not consider the negligible improvements in the Oasis worthy of the $100 (or whatever) premium for my needs. Some people might have different needs and consider it worth it. They will purchase it, perhaps justifiably.

What remains constant is that the improvements on display here cannot be considered a result of a $100 per customer investment on a solely objective basis by any unbiased observer. If you think those sociological studies were worth $100 a unit premium, please be my guest and continue to think so.

I never said that Tolino could be a market leader (I don't believe they could, for other reasons than the display actually, their FW is just bad), I said other e-readers could.

But why the agressivity ? This is just a forum, chill. Nobody tried to steal your first born.

I have the same feeling. I maybe had too much expectancy because of the 20 months rumour that appeared few days ago. I didn't expect so much but like you I really conceive as possible a cover-battery with a very large capacity. It probably explains my disappointment.

I have absolutely no problem with current battery life. But for the price I would appreciate a battery life of several months (which means ~100 hours reading), and not the same battery life than… Kindle Paperwhite 2.
Currently, the Oasis + cover costs more and weights more for the same battery life. And without cover it has a very attractive weight… but less battery life than a cheap LCD tablet. The "two weeks" battery life is just a marketing unit for "few hours of reading".

In all seriousness, for me, it's TOO thin without a cover, and it IS too heavy, but man, if they were to re-release that form factor with a modern screen and better weight and balance, I'd so be there!

And BTW, for a device designed to be held like this, weight is most certainly function, not just form.

EDIT: On reflection, I probably would NOT be interested in a reissued KK. I have very fond memories of the keyboard from my pre-smartphone days, but it really would be pointless now. The touch keyboard in my PW and other devices have proven perfectly suitable for the tasks I still use them for while reading.

Yeah, but I've returned a total of one thing ever to Amazon (when the Barclay brothers' terrible Yodel delivery service managed to shatter 90% of the DVDs in a box set), while I've spent thousands there, probably more. I'm a nearly perfect customer from their perspective: they'd be idiots to cancel my account.

(Also, I'd never consider cycling through multiple Kindles to find one with a perfect screen like some here have: it gets one chance, then if I don't like it I'll buy a Voyage instead. Well pre-orders in the UK don't seem to be going that well... I've just added stuff to the basket but obviously didn't go through with the orders.
We're now over 24h after pre-orders opened - both the black and merlot wifi-only still show an April 27th delivery date, and the walnut is May 6th. Haven't tried with the 3g version as that's likely less popular.
