Well after lots of waffling over the cover color, I decided on Walnut and have a ship date of June 7th

I checked the Merlot and it was end of June

At least I have enough time to see how the early birds like it.

Ugly and awkward, overpriced, no improvement in resolution, not much lighter in weight from what I can tell (by 1.7 oz) and how heavy with the battery cover? And so small. WHAT in the world were they thinking?

And. . . no color. No innovation. Just incrementals in all the areas that don't matter.

I think they are going for the "Apple quality mantra effect" with that price. Otherwise, I can't imagine people buying this. Amazon's previous success will have pre-cannibalized any sales from this.

Not impressed at all.

I can't find anything in the users guide that says that the only charging port is located on the reader itself. Len Edgerly says that both the cover and the reader have their own charging points, and he's actually seen and handled one.

I see the ship date has gone from May 10 to June 7th.
And in a poll over in the kindle forum 20% said they would definitely buy this product.
It seems to be the ergonomic design that is winning people over.
I think Amazon is catering to the voracious readers.
Voracious readers are a smaller market, but that market can be a very profitable one.

Well now I sorta wish the Voyage would drop to $149.99 again. "Almost" jumped on that deal last week. I cannot spend $300 on an e-reader right now, but I do like page turn buttons and a 300 dpi screen.

I went through the same decision process and also ended up ordering the walnut due on June 7. I refuse to even consider the black cover.

Part of my gadget addiction is really a case addiction. All of my gadgets seem to acquire multiple cases. I don't know how I'm going to feel about having just one case for the Oasis. I wonder if there will even be any third party cases.

I also don't understand why the case can't be charged by itself. That would have been a very nice feature. It would also probably have made it possible for Amazon to sell me a second case for backup.

Wireless charging for the cover would have been a nice touch for the top of the line premium Kindle. They missed a trick there I think (or are they saving that up for the next top of the line super premium Kindle?)

Also more colours to choose from for the cover. I'm sure there will be 3rd party covers sooner or later, but the quality of the battery may or may not be an issue - could be pot luck there.

I'd rather spend that money on books though and I still can't get past the asymmetry anyway. Maybe if I were to handle one, I'd feel differently but I can't see myself getting one at all. I'd pick the Voyage over the Oasis.

Where do you find a ship date? I ordered around 1 pm and mine still has pending for ship date.
