looking at the Engadget pictures, the cover actually sticks above (i.e. thicker) on the back. So with the cover on, you are actually gripping the thinner part of the unit now instead of the thicker part. I also must assume that the cover destroys the whole "one handed reading because the weight is mostly in your palm" angle since the asymmetry has been removed.

You need a specific credit card for that. In the UK they are few and far between.

Why does the Oasis need 10 LEDs when the H2O (6.8" screen) has 6 LEDs and the lighting is very even?

It's hugely expensive. Over twice the price of a KPW3. Is it going to be positioned above the Voyage, creating another line? Basic -> PW -> Voyage -> Oasis?

While I don't like the looks of the device when it's out of the cover, I think it'll look the part when inside. Still, I find it a bit of a pity that they choose to go with an asymmetrical device.

I'm going to have a look and evaluate it, but seeing that I use no features of my KPW1 except the front-light, I can't see myself upgrading to this new device *unless* it brings something really desireable in the layout engine.

Not a big one; and it's a huge step up for the sizable contingent of iPhone users that are still using the 4 and 5 series iPhones.

But they hit the mark. Anecdotes say it's been selling briskly.

That's because there are a lot of Apple fans that will buy anything Apple releases regardless of the fact that's not much of an upgrade. The iPhone SE is a downgrade.

As for the Oasis, I too think it's overpriced for what it is. The PW3 is the Kindle that works best at it's price.

Calling it a "charging" cover still suggests to me that I would be able to take full advantage of the longer battery life by reading without the cover and storing it in the cover. Thus being able to appreciate the newer ergonomic advantages (for me) of the naked Oasis as well.

However ... the price and the decision to continue using a breakable substrate will probably make me give it a pass for now. Perhaps I'll revisit after the first big discount event (and users have had a chance to chime in with actual usage data).
