It is still a huge waste of energy no matter how you look at it.

Solar power is very very energy efficient, e.g. when using it to warm up water during the day and storing it for later. When it comes to producing electricity, not so much.
Replace Power with Panels, and you're right. Because photovoltaic cells, actual generation, are very very efficient in producing electricity.

Do you normally hold your current reader in your dominant hand? How often do you think you shift hands while reading?

I'd say ergonomics were pretty much the last consideration in this design.

I'm right handed but I hold my Kindle in either hand, it's probably 50% each hand and I switch quite often. I wouldn't like having to flip the Oasis every time

This device (naked) has the potential to be ergonomically perfect for me.

I almost never hold my reader while reading. It is either inclined on a table, sitting in a cushion in my lap or propped up in bed. I most often turn the page with my left hand although I am right-handed.

I have no need for a "page back" button as long as touch-screen gestures are available.

I like the Voyage as it has buttons (okay page presses sensors) on both sides, I tend to use both sides as I hold the Voyage with both hands, folding back the cover behind the back.

My hope is that as people see what solar can be used for, the demand will drive advancements and fundamental changes in technology that will address these concerns. I don't know if anything drastic HAS happened, but I hope that if enough low-energy, high-tech, bits of coolness lead the way, something drastic WILL happen.

I have the Aura HD, but never take it out of the house, as e-ink screens are known for their fragility.
I've been commuting back and forth with my KPW1 since december 2012, in a cheap €15 aftermarket PU-leather case. No problems so far.

The 2017 Kindle Safari

Ok I had too much time on my hand, so I drew up my Oasis alternative.

(sorry about the lores pic and lousy Paint job. Zero artistic skills here)

edit: on second thought, I may toss the audio jack and just go with bluetooth. One less port to cover up. I want the built-in speaker(s), though; don't always have a BT speaker around.

okay, may have to up to $239 USD

The thinner bezels in your version make such a difference. Your asymmetry works for me, whereas Amazon's doesn't

That's my concern also. I often read while eating and the Origami cover is perfect for that. My Voyage screen is even and bright, so with the same pixel count I'm thinking the screen may not be much, if any better.

I am ambidextrous and do not switch hands often. I anticipate that I will switch even less with the Oasis. For me this may be the most ergonomic e-reader ever. That angled back is no accident.

Has anyone seen a USB port on the Oasis in any of the pics making the rounds? It comes with a charging cover according to some reports. Does that mean the USB port is only in the cover?
