Nah, they're having too much fun laughing while Kindle fans agonize over the tiniest of leaks

I suspect all this buzz about the new Kindle isn't going to rush Amazon's announcement. This is probably exactly what they hoped for and I bet they'll let us keep mixing the strew!

Katie, I've checked all your posts in this thread and I don't see an unanswered question, or any question at all from you. Perhaps I missed it.

The Forum guidelines say specifically that threads have lives of their own and when it comes to speculation and hopes for a new device, I think it's even wider open than usual.

Accusations of favoritism are generally not productive. If you have an issue with a specific post, you can always report it.

Even the third-party solar chargers that are available don't seem to get much press, and the Kindle will come with one by default?
For right now, a practical sized solar charger wouldn't make a dent in the power needs of a smartphone or tablet, but could actually operate an eink reader, with it's unusually high surface-area-to-power-requirement ratio, so I guess it's a matter of using it where it works, so that development will continue and make it work more of where it's needed.

And, remember, this isn't the FIRST device....watches, calculators, have had solar for years.
This would be an interesting next step.

As low energy mesh networking devices spread wide on the IoT, I think we may see more devices using alternate, self-contained power sources.

I'm guessing you're right. I wonder how many times these "leaks" are really leaks.

I like the concept, for reading sideways in the bed looks really handy. (With the Paperwhite I have to extend uncomfortably the thumb). But the cover do not protect the heavy part of the device. It must be rubber coating or something, resistant, and nice to hold. I like the official case of the Paperwhite, mine has had many falls, protects very well.

If no waterproof, is strange. We have extended autonomy, perfect for long sessions in the beach, camping, extended travels, maybe emergency situations... but in all those cases, waterproof protection would be more than ideal.

The general consensus seems to be if this is legit we are disappointed.

All we get with Oasis is thinner and lighter ,physical page buttons and a case that charges.

It's not even waterproof...how could Amazon miss on that one which the competition has been doing for awhile now.

Of course they aren't real leaks. Most of them are quite deliberate. You're not going to tell me that once every so often an employee of a huge big company makes the 'mistake' of 'accidentally' putting a page online that should have been online a week later.

As we say in the Netherlands: Make that the cat wise.

Spoiler:

(OK, that's a bit of a word of word translation of "Maak dat de kat wijs." Litterally (excuse the pun...) it would mean: "Try and make the cat believe it," or probably more correctly "Go and try to fool someone else.")

Meet Oasis, the new thick/thin ereader.

Too thick to hold one-handed? Rotate and go thin.

Too thin to hold one-handed? Rotate and go thick.

At Amazon, we want advocates of both thick and thin to be happy.

Leaks can be deliberate or accidental, they are still leaks.
An employee, or vendor, might get some profit or favor by giving someone advance info, when corporate leadership intended to keep it under wraps.
But, yes, sometimes it's a directed corporate marketing tactic, not a leak at all, if that's what you mean.

BTW, Anyone post this translation yet?

That's what I mean. I think most, if not all such leaks are deliberate to fuel the buzz.

That's a 'right handed Kindle'. The lefties aren't going to like that. Also, to get it to be flat, you'll be almost forced to use a matching cover.

I don't like this weird housing stuff Kobo and Amazon got into (assuming these pictures are real). It looks like changing things just to change things.

I´d like to buy a really new reader for once, it usually takes months until I can order one.

I´m happy with my PW2, but the oasis looks like a worthwhile upgrade because it looks a lot faster to remove it from the cover and the PPI is a bit higher than the PW2 as well :-)

Meet Oasis, the new solar powered ereader.

Wishing for a solar powered option in your ereader? Then meet the Oasis!

Don't want solar power? Then don't buy it; no one's twisting your arm. Just shut up about it!

At Amazon, we've got you covered.

Smart phones are small in size relative to their energy consumption. How big of a solar panel do you need to make a dent charging a 2500mAH battery?
