Mostly because it's called a mobile, not a cell phone

Saying that, I'm on the edge of the peak district here and you don't have to go far into the hills to lose signal.

No, they presume everybody reads in the sun!

But seriously, it could be that they envision people removing the reader from the cover when reading (and putting the cover in a sunny place), so that the cover will charge while reading and that in turn will charge the reader once it's put back on.

Solar cells don't need go be in direct sunlight to work. Ordinary ambient light, even indoors, can generate a small ongoing current. A cover-sized reader probably won't keep a reader permanently charged under normal use but it can probably extend the time between charges by a decent fraction even in indoors-only use.

Of course, if you keep it in a drawer...

I would much prefer wireless charging to solar. Just put a charging mat wherever you tend to lay down your kindle after use and never worry about charging again, at least for in-home use.

I know, but people usually fold covers back. Which means that (I'm going to presume that those solar sells are on the facing side of the cover, either the front or the back) those cells will be covered while reading (at least, I never saw anybody reading an ereader like a paper book...)
And while direct sunlight wouldn't be required, some sunlight (or ambient for that matter) would still be mandatory for it to generate a current... (or my solar panels would work at night too!)

That sounds plausible and something i'd be willing to do say once a week or so,if the solar panel does come out it's gonna be a pretty expensive cover,might cost half of what the kindle will

But according to that link the voyage is still on there,so this is going to be priced higher than the current voyage or they will drop its price and this will replace that price tier,probably will be the first and might come in at $299?

There's a lot of good reasons to have solar power. It may not be a must have for many, and may not be worth a huge premium to most, but as solar cells are getting better and cheaper, it's more a matter of "why NOT have solar?"

I agree completely. Whatever the reason that a reader may be kept away from charging outlets for extended periods of time, why NOT employ something that can extend their available reading time?

It's not something I personally see myself needing, but neither do I see a reason for me to oppose/fight it. It's not like it's going to cost me anything to let it happen. Any price they put on it is still going to be ridiculously cheaper than what I willingly paid for my first eink reader.
