Building on my two previous posts

｢ルービックキューブ｣ by the vocaloid virtual artist 初音ミク



Somewhat stretching the rules: the title is tidentical but the song is different and the name is a variation (albeit in the script only). Also, the romanji variation Ruubikku Kyuubu is now invalid since it refers to the same song.

I thought this could open up possibilities but it was not easy to find people names in japanese titles ...perhaps different cultures do not refer to people as much as we do in western songs titles or maybe my Googling in japanese needs to be perfected ? I would be interested to hear comments on this.

I don't see anything in the rules that specifically covers this. I don't think we can restrict names to "English" since many common English names have non-English origins. Examples already played include Winona, Desiree, Elise, etc.


But I think names in non-Latin characters make it too hard to follow along for most of us. I suppose I could brush up my Cyrillic and find an appropriate song in Russian by a pop star like Катя Чехова (Katya Chehova) -- she has videos at Youtube -- but that just seems like too much of an inside play.

Just my feeling -- I don't make the rules.

This is something I hadn't considered when I set up the rules, but should have seen it coming considering that there are a number of songs that share the same name but are different songs. Some non-name examples where the song's name is the same but the songs are different:

- "My Love" by Petula Clark and "My Love" by Paul McCartney

- "It's Too Late" by Bobby Goldsboro and "It's Too Late" by Carole King

- "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore and "You Don't Own Me" by Gilbert O'Sullivan

Due to the above, a song with the same title as a song that has been used can be used as long as it is a different song, but the name that was previously used can not be used with the new song. As an example, if two songs are named "Abraham, Martin And John" but are different songs and the first song posted used the name "John" the second song can used either "Abraham" or "Martin" if they have not be used already. However, a YouTube link should be included with the new song so that it can be compared to the previous song to confirm that they are not the same song.

Concerning names with non-Latin characters, it is probably best to avoid them since there would be an issue of being able to confirm a name has already been used (I don't know if the search function can use non-Latin characters). But it's only an issue with song titles, not the name of the artist/group.

My point was that the name (Kubrik) was previously used but could still be used with the new song since the different script makes it a variation (ルービック). In this case the name is not only the same but the person being named is undoubtedly the same, pushing the rule even further.

Crafting that post was just for fun . I too, agree to reject non-latin scripts, which BTW do not break the search function.
