Not if it is intended to be used with a Bluetooth speaker that works with phones or if you have a set of earbuds. Then you get the functionality without taking up the component space.

1. "I want X." 2. "Damn, that's expensive. I'll go for A. It's about 80% right." 3. "Grrr. It's not right enough. I'll sell A and go for B. It's about 87% right." Rinse and repeat 2 and 3, and end up with X in the end... having lost money by first buying other stuff. I've just, at some point, decided to not do that anymore and either go for X immediately (if realistically possible), lower my expectations/demands, or, if both are not possible or desirable, forget about buying the product entirely. I've found that in the end, spending more costs you less ![]() |

Things change. At this point all we know is Bezos took the unusual step of tweeting about it. Which he doesn't normally do. It could be a Liquavista Kindle or it could be an Alexa Kindle or it could be a wearable Kindle. Or it could be "just" a new and improved Voyage. With Amazon you never know. Nate has more details: http://the-digital-reader.com/2016/0...dy-on-the-way/ Turns out there's more than one new Kindle incoming. And the cover with a battery is a solar cover. On MR, T3 stands for the Sony Reader PRS-T3. If you want to talk Tesla Model 3, you need to find a new abbreviation as T3 is taken and means something else.

And Tesla's model 3 being the subject of the exchange, with no smiley on your contribution, I assumed you were serious and referring to something new and shiny like the car and new Kindle(s), not roadkill.
No biggie. ![]() |

Alexa is useless to me since I can't talk, but if that is what it takes to get TTS, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet.
Does liquavista have better contrast than e-ink? How high a PPI have they achieved? I don't want a poorer quality display just to have high refresh or color. Come on Amazon, entice me ![]() |

What if Amazon just sold the books and not the device! Then other companies would start competing with one another to make the best reader for ebooks. The smartest ones, probably the most successful ones, would be able to handle books from any store. So we'd have a wide variety of devices to choose from, one to match whatever our preference might be, and we could be sure it would work natively with whatever store we choose to buy ebooks from. So I have my 5" Samsung Galaxy e-ink reader and I go shopping for books, right from the device, on Amazon, Kobo, B&N, Feedbooks, Gutenberg, etc. and buy from the one that offers the book I want at the best price. You go shopping on your 6.8" HTC E-ink 9 and do the same thing. This would make for a far more rational ebook market and also would render DRM at least a little more innocuous. Of course some of you silly people would probably buy the HP model and it would fall apart next week. Or the Apple version that would electrocute you if you try to go to Amazon to buy your book. ![]() Barry |

I don't think it's going to be as good as the best lcd's or amoled screens out there in terms of colour 'pop' but as long as it doesn't look washed out and utter crap then it should be fine. |

Liquavista has not shipped a single screen, so no specs exist. In any case, contrast will vary depending on which mode it is in: reflective, back-lit, or both. PPI will depend on the underlying panel, but it will be whatever Amazon decides is necessary for a given device. I would expect something in the mid-200s like the Fire tablets, and I'd expect the contrast to be very good in back-lit mode, and hopefully at least as good as e-ink in reflective mode. Of course with a color device, there can be some customization of colors used for text/background, as well as 'blue filter' for night reading. That said, I'm starting to reduce my expectation that there will be a Liquavista device announced (as more 'information' has trickled in). Hope my pessimism proves unfounded. A solar powered cover does not interest me in the least, unless we do get a Liquavista device, and that is necessary to achieve decent (better than Fire) time between charges. |
