We still do. Bones from chicken and turkey are easy (we put the chicken bones in a freezer container until we have enough to make a potful), but for cow bones, we now only get organic ones, to reduce the chance of prions (which cause KJD in humans/mad-cow in cows) and any other bad "stuff" from today's large-scale cattle techniques. Same for any bones for the pups, these days, since non-organic have an extremely high chance of having e-coli and/or salmonella.

Our local butchers used to just give the bones away - now, you have to pay thru the nose for them. We do have one restaurant that will give you the really big bones for your dog, if you ask nicely, tho.

Makes much better broth than those cubes. Roasting the bones give them better flavor, too, IMO.

Rachael Ray's Big Orange Book Now $1.99--86% Off of the Digital List Price. Wow!

If you don't want to spring the $1.99 for the ebook, at least check out the free recipe, on the book's Amazon webpage, for Smoky Tomato Soup with Mini Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sammies. Ummm UMM!

Rachael Ray's Big Orange Book: Her Biggest Ever Collection of All-New 30-Minute Meals Plus Kosher Meals, Meals for One, Veggie Dinners, Holiday Favorites, and Much More! By Rachael Ray. Rated 4.3 stars, from 125 reviews at Amazon at the present moment. Print list price $24.95; digital list price $13.99; Kindle price $1.99. Clarkson Potter, publisher. 360 pages. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007M29ZHS?.

Book Description
In the 10 years since she served up her first 30-minute meal—and thousands of delectable dinners later— Rachael Ray has learned just about all there is to know about getting a great tasting meal on the table in a hurry, whether it is one of her patented 30-minute miracles or something just a tad more involved for a special gathering. Rachael’s Big Orange Book is the ultimate resource for busy cooks. Need kitchen inspiration? It’s all here and it’s all new—and bigger than ever!

Just one for dinner tonight? Forget the cold cereal. Rach has a chapter of recipes that make dining on your own a thoroughly civilized occasion, with great meals that won’t leave you with a fridge full of leftovers. Vegetarians on the guest list? No problem! Choose from dozens of meat-free meals that are every bit as satisfying as your tried-and-true standards and savory enough to please the carnivores in your crowd. Observing a Kosher menu? Check out the selection of menus just for Kosher cooks, all ready in less than, you guessed it, 30 minutes. There's even a mother lode of burger recipes for fans of the bun—so many options you could make a different burger every day for a full month!

In addition to her latest 30-minute creations, Rachael has put together an array of menus and recipes for easy entertaining, from quick snacks to serve for game night and easy hors d’oeuvres, to soup-to-nuts menus for her favorite holidays and special occasions. Whip up a pasta buffet for a special mom on Mother’s Day, please a crowd with a super-simple Oscar party menu, and give thanks for not one but four fantastic menus that keep holiday stress to a minimum by getting you out of the kitchen in record time.

Best of all, these recipes have all the huge flavors you’ve come to expect from Rachael, with something to please every taste—and every food budget. You’ll even find the treasured family recipes that Rachael and her husband, John, have enjoyed for years; see if they don’t become beloved family traditions in your home as well. Whether this is your first introduction to cooking the 30-minute way or you are a long-time convert, you’ll find irresistible new recipes here to make the most of every second you spend in the kitchen.

Since I have never tried 30 minute cooking, I grabbed the book. If it isn't good, you owe me.

Are you sure that you're just "slightly" off? ha

I'd be more skeptical about finishing a recipe in 30 minutes' time than the book of Rachael Ray's recipes not being any good. I haven't looked inside the book, but I looked over the free soup & sammie recipe. I don't see how anyone could complete that dish in 30 minutes if they have to take the ingredients out of the frig or wherever, chop the necessary ingredients, measure things, cook the ingredients, etc. etc. I bought the book, but I didn't buy it in the belief that I would be able actually to prepare any of the recipes therein within 30 minutes!

Just like when a recipe or author says caramelizing onions takes twenty minutes. Maybe if your using a blast furnace.

Or you can cook bone in chicken in 8 minutes in a deep fryer.
This is why I do not eat fast food chicken. Cannot guarantee the doneness.

Oh and if I wanted to make a hamburger today, I would need several hours. Thaw time.

Try one of the "Cooking from scratch in the microwave" books I post from time to time.

Also "30 minutes prep, cook for 6 hours" of course.

I have been grinding my own hamburger meat. It all started when I found out that there could be the dna from more than 400 steers in one pound of ground beef.
Sometimes I grind chuck into burgers. Most of the time I like a combination of sirloin flap meat and beef short ribs.

You mean you have to heat the onions up? That's what I've been doing wrong! I was just melting some Kraft caramels and dipping those onions in it!
