I just went through the crime/mystery lot, and I found that on the ones I was interested in, almost all, with just a couple of exceptions, were price-matched at Kindle UK, and the reverse was the case at Kobo UK - almost none were matched (big surprise - NOT! ). I probably checked about 1/4 - 1/3 of the titles. Two or three were only on sale (so far, at least) at Sainsburys. I don't have a Sainsburys account, and will have to decide whether to set one up, or hope that Kindle UK matches soon...

Whilst non UK people can't collect the points, Sainsbury still have many good sales we can take advantage of.

Psss .... I think both links have the same, or mostly the same books ...

Sufue sainsburys don't question where you come from when you set up an account, from memory. My account is several years old and I know I never had a problem using it. So, no VPN required.

That's good to know, but for me personally, it's really just the having-too-many-accounts thing, more than the VPN. And the three titles are not my highest priority from that list. And it's late on a Friday afternoon here in southern California, and right now it doesn't seem worth the hassle. Tomorrow, after some wine and a nice sunset tonight, I will probably feel differently !

The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro is a non-series mystery. It drops in price from time to time, and has recently dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AFKISKO

Spoiler:
Quote:
Almost twenty-five years after the infamous art heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum—still the largest unsolved art theft in history—one of the stolen Degas paintings is delivered to the Boston studio of a young artist. Claire Roth has entered into a Faustian bargain with a powerful gallery owner by agreeing to forge the Degas in exchange for a one-woman show in his renowned gallery. But as she begins her work, she starts to suspect that this long-missing masterpiece—the very one that had been hanging at the Gardner for one hundred years—may itself be a forgery. The Art Forger is a thrilling novel about seeing—and not seeing—the secrets that lie beneath the canvas.

For those who shop in Kobo India, check out Helen MacInnes's books, and other books that Sainsburys and Amazon UK have on special currently. The MacInnes books are less than AUD1.

Robert Barnard books around the same price.

The Egyptian Coffin is the second in the Lord Ambrose Malfine series by Jane Jakeman. It's on repeat US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about 5 1/2 more days. Info and link in this previous post.

The other two in this series are (now) Endeavour Press titles and have also been free/Countdown in the past, so if you are patient they will probably roll around again too.

Darn, that's about half what they work out to be in the Amazon UK store! Oh well, the Amazon UK price was still about 1/3 what they would have been in the US, so I'm still ahead.

The same publisher, Titan Books, that has the MacInnes titles for Rs 49 ($US 0.75) in the Kobo India store, also has a bunch of Donald Hamilton thriller titles for Rs 49 (about US $0.75), mostly from the Matt Helm series. I don't read many thrillers, but for those who might be interested, here's a price-ascending link that also includes a few at the end that are more than Rs 49:
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/se...a-7fc9a1db7ac8

Titan Books also has a couple of Maureen Jennings/William Murdoch titles at Rs 49 and several more Murdoch and Tim Tyler titles at Rs 136, which is about US $2.00.
link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/se...&sort=PriceAsc

Several Michael Kurland titles for Rs 136 and Rs 163 - about US $2.00 and US $2.40 respectively.
link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/se...a-7fc9a1db7ac8

All of the Carol K Carr/India Black titles (AFAIK) for Rs 130 to Rs 136 - about US $2.00.
link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/se...&sort=PriceAsc

All four of Daniel Stashower's Harry Houdini mysteries for Rs 102 to Rs 147 - about US $1.50 to US $2.20.

And Titan Books seems to be the distributor for Hard Case Crime, and have a bunch at Rs 102 (about US $1.50) and less, and a few for more. Authors include Ariel S Winter, Brett Halliday, Erle Stanley Gardner, Max Allan Collins, and more, but usually not their "main" titles, often their early pulp titles. But still some good ones in there.
link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/se...&sort=PriceAsc

As always, you have to already be in the Kobo India store to see the Rs prices. Some of these books are fairly inexpensive in Kindle US and Kindle UK, and do go on sale from time to time, but it's sort of hit-or-miss. However, if you don't want to travel to India, you might check the titles you want there.

Buried for Pleasure is the sixth in the Gervase Fen series by Edmund Crispin. It's a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 9 more hours (sorry). I actually think it just recently dropped, because I looked at the Countdown deals early this morning and didn't notice it ????? But, less than a day is a pretty fast Countdown deal. Maybe I just missed it, and anyway, it is what it is...

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JIUWDGC

Spoiler:
Quote:
As inventive as Agatha Christie, as hilarious as P.G. Wodehouse - discover the delightful detective stories of Edmund Crispin. Crime fiction at its quirky best.

In the sleepy English village of Sanford Angelorum, professor and amateur detective Gervase Fen is taking a break from his books to run for Parliament. At first glance, the village he's come to canvass appears perfectly peaceful, but Fen soon discovers that appearances can be deceptive: someone in the village has discovered a dark secret and is using it for blackmail. Anyone who comes close to uncovering the blackmailer's identity is swiftly dispatched.

As the joys of politics wear off, Fen sets his mind to the mystery but finds himself caught up in a tangled tale of eccentric psychiatrists, escaped lunatics, beautiful women and lost heirs.

REVIEWS

"Both the mature and the discerning young choose to pick up one of Crispin's beautifully turned crime novels" - The Times

"Crispin isn't in it for the mystery, but for the enigmas" - Guardian

"His books are full of high spirits and excellent jokes, with constant literary allusions and an atmosphere of bibulous good humour. But at times the mood turns darker, and Crispin is capable of passages of both genuine suspense and ingenius deduction" - The Daily Telegraph

"Crispin is noted for an ability to embellish clever story lines with Marx Brothers touches" - New York Times

"A distinguished piece of detective fiction, constructed with real intelligence"
- Daily Mail

"A master of the whodunit…he combines a flawless plot, witty dialogue, and a touch of hilarity" - New York Times

"Master of fast-paced, tongue-in-cheek mystery novels, a blend of John Dickson Carr, Michael Innes, M.R. James, and the Marx Brothers" - Anthony Boucher

"All his work had a high-spiritedness rare and welcome in the crime story" - Julian Symons

"Rightly elevated to classic status" - New York Sun

Hey Mel, you're right, Sainsbury's not accepting my AU credit card anymore!! The message I got is:
'Payment details are not supported'

Oh well, I'll stay on their mailing list so that I can compare their on sale ebook prices with the other sellers that match.

Sainsburys loss, not mine!!

Medium Dead is a short title in the Alexandra Gladstone series by Paula Paul. It has recently dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N6PEWT6

Spoiler:
Quote:
Sure to delight readers of Jacqueline Winspear, Emma Jameson, and Laura Childs, this short novel features Queen Victoria herself—and she’s rumored to have slain a local psychic in Newton-upon-Sea. Now the task of clearing her name and catching the real killer falls to Dr. Alexandra Gladstone.

Under Victoria’s reign, women are barred from calling themselves physicians, but that hasn’t stopped Alexandra Gladstone. As the first female doctor in Newton-upon-Sea, she spends her days tending sick villagers in the practice she inherited from her father, with her loyal and sometimes overprotective dog, Zack, by her side.

After the corpse of village spiritualist Alvina Elwold is discovered aboveground at a church boneyard, wild rumors circulate through the charming seaside village, including one implicating a certain regal guest lodging nearby. Tales of the dead Alvina hobnobbing with spirits and hexing her enemies are even more outlandish—but as a woman of science and reason, Alexandra has no doubt that a murderer made of flesh and blood is on the loose.

Finding out the truth means sorting through a deluge of ghostly visitors, royal sightings, and shifty suspects. At least her attentive and handsome friend Nicholas Forsyth, Lord Dunsford, has come to her aid. Alexandra will need all the help she can get, because she’s stumbled upon dangerous secrets—while provoking a deadly adversary who wants to keep them buried.

Praise for Medium Dead

“An entertaining cozy mystery written with vivid historical detail . . . If you like reading historical mysteries with just a hint of romance, then Medium Dead should be right up your street.”—Fictionophile

“There are more than a few scenes where Alexandra’s dog, Zack, steals the show.”—Reading Reality

“I would recommend this to fans of the Maisie Dobbs series. There’s a strong female character in a historical setting. She’s determined, logical, intelligent and faces an unusual situation.”—The Reader’s Hollow

Praise for Paula Paul’s Alexandra Gladstone mysteries

“The Dr. Alexandra Gladstone series by Paula Paul presents an intriguing mixture of mystery, romance, and history. I especially love the way real personalities from the past keep popping up to intermingle with Paul’s fictional characters.”—Lois Duncan, award-winning and bestselling author of Killing Mr. Griffin and I Know What You Did Last Summer

“A lively mixture of ruling class murder, Victorian morals, and love.”—Bestselling author Tony Hillerman
