Actually the first time I just switched from MarkRestoration to MarkFinance and used it - but finance words weren't marked so I went back to settings (assuming I had mis-selected) but MarkFinance was selected, but when I went into Edit I got the MarkRestoration list.

As I said I checked the files and they appeared to be OK.

I assume the path of the current list is in in the config file - maybe that's not being updated. What should I check for ?

FWIW - the calibre DOCX to EPUB Conversion picks up the Highlights, which is a handy and unexpected bonus

Strange, looking at the code it should work fine. It should take the newly selected/entered value instead of the old one. However, I did make some changes in the code to make it more robust and add more errorlog. Perhaps something comes out of that.

Everything is working fine now, except epubcheck complaining of not complete metadata element, because of missing child element "dc:language".

We just had a similar discussion elsewhere.

Hmm, that one I can probably understand. You probably entered the language yourself instead of selecting a value, which makes sense if the language is not in the shortlist. That would cause the metadata for the language not being entered.
I will ensure this is fixed in the next release.

This fixed the mark rule switching but after adding rules and sorting when I then click Save & Close I get a spinning wheel (waited 15 minutes). However I can hit Cancel, but the changes aren't saved.

Nothing else has any of the files open, did a restart to make sure. I'm back to 1.20.3

Strange as it sounds, this is probably because the write action cannot be done because Windows thinks the file is open even if it isn't. I have had that a couple of times and it is quite frustrating since nothing is open. Especially frustrating since there is no real way of telling if the file is used before actually trying to use the file. Besides the things I am already working on, this is also something I try to address.
For the record, the mechanism has not changed in 1.20.3 and it can also occur there...

The point is that one can select the language once in the box of the "preparation" field, but then as well enter it manually in the box that opens at "create epub". This was what I did. Should the respective box in the "create epub" field be ignored, then?

In my 30+ years working in IT something I learnt too many times to remember was that problems can mysteriously manifest in feature A due a change in feature Z.

They are separate entities (at least in your version). The one in the preparation field is only about the document language setting in Word, the other in the language setting of the ePUB. What I did was give some options for ePUB languages, but any manual entry in the field was ignored.
Now, in the current version on my development machine I have changed that. By default the language will be set in the ePUB metadata that is also selected as main Word language. So, there are not only more language options, it is now also combined in a ways with the other setting.

Now, due to the other somewhat extensive changes in the core, I need a lot more testing before releasing the next release.

It is very strange. Windows sometimes report back that a file is in use when it actually is not. I have now created a function that should try to avoid this.

On Thursday I bought an Alien Alpha, spent yesterday on the basics, e.g. getting Windows 10 up to date, Office 2010 installed and updated etcetera. Today I installed EpubTools 1.21 into vanilla Word, no customisations, no other addins, no macros etc - it hadn't even opened a document. When I did a Save&Exit in Move->Edit Document, I experienced exactly the same spinning wheel as I had on the other machine.

Version 1.20.3 works like a charm of course.

Again, nothing has changed there. Not even remote. Without more extensive logging it will be unable for me to find out what the issue is. In the next version there will be checking if the file is in use and more logging. If the problem than still persists, at least we can find out why.

What puzzles me is this:- a spinning wheel normally means a program is busy or waiting for a locked resource such as locked file, and the only way to get out of it is to release the resource or kill the program. But in this instance I can hit Cancel and return to the parent dialogue and hit Exit there.

I guess what I am saying the spinning wheel cursor may be misleading me (us) -- I think we've discussed something similar before -- it's more like the button click is being ignored.

That is actually not that strange. I change the cursor before writing and cleaning up and change it back when that is done. If there comes an instruction on which it stops/breaks/whatever, that routine stops and therefore changing the cursor back does not happen. However, since the routine has stopped, the other button becomes responsive again, although that does not always happen. Sometimes a routine doesn't really stop but just hangs. That is why I changed several things and more logging will be created so it will be easier to pinpoint the problems in case they are still there after the changes. I will probably PM you later today or tomorrow to see if you want to beta-test.
