I was having this issue on the software not starting after the install....I followed the tips to add the Sony library software to the DEP exception list and it works great now. I wish Microsoft had a better error message to at least give you a hint.

I had to turn DEP off earlier in the year so that an audiobook player and it's software would run. Therefore, I didn't have this problem. But I also didn't know you could add DEP exceptions, something I'll now have to look into.

I am glad that they have the DEP exceptions so that you will still have some protection...

DEP has nothing to do with your files. It has to do with no allowing code to execute in memory blocks that have not been designated as executable code. It is to prevent buffer overrun exploits.

My issue has nothing to do with DEP. DEP is actually disabled for all but my system processes. I also double-checked just to make sure that DEP wasn't enabled for the eBookLibrary.exe process. It isn't. The software still doesn't appear.

Try rebooting into safe mode. It's possible that something you run (or some setting) is causing the problem. If it works, then you know you have work to do.

Do you have a content filter on your computer? I'm having trouble with my PRS-700 connecting to the store. The problem is my internet content filter. It's called Total Net Guard. If I uninstall the filter, everything works fine. I'm still working on trying to get the IP for the actual software from Sony. I can get to the website, but can't connect to the store. The filter tech support will create an exception to the filter to allow me to access the store, if I can can get the magic number!

You should not have to manually input the IP into your firewall app unless you
created certain rules that blocks ports from making outbound traffic that Sony
specifically wants access to.

You should open services.msc (in run command) and then look for the offending
firewall application and temporarely disable it. Then try and re-connect to Sony.

I don't know what this means. Software doesn't have IP (if you mean IP address. If you mean intelectual property, well I doubt you do.)

Do you mean you want the IP address on the sony ebook store? If so you can just do a ping to get it. ebookstore.sony.com is 64.37.182.20. That may not be the only IP address it hits though. You can't have your filter ignore the Sony software?

Dont get me wrong, the 700 is a GREAT device, but... its sync software simply sux! (at least on Vista) It constantly chunks, eats lots and lots of memory and resources... and still, it keeps choaking! Its a pity that such a great devices has such a LOUSY sync software: it seems to be done rushed or something, as lots and lots of syncing options are DESPERATELY NEEDED... so if anybody at sony read these lines: DO SOMETHING and DO IT FAST! (sorry for shouting but... the device is marvelous, it works like a charm... but its sync soft...)

Anywaw, about the title's thread, visit https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36480 to know how to uninstall and reinstall the sync soft (I felt yesterday like the only one with problems with the sync soft... now I know Im not alone!)

ozk: You can always use calibre to manage your books. I use the sony software only to purchase titles (If I can't get them elsewhere) then I "Add" them to calibre which will allow me to keep track of my library and copy them to the 700.

You could also copy the books directly using windows explorer as the Sony just mounts as a removable drive.

We tried the IP address for the store, that just takes me to the store, which I already can do. I can't get into the place I need to be to download/ purchase any ebooks. The tech rep said I may need to talk to a programmer or someone in charge of the servers.

Is that what "sync" means/does? In my ignorance, I may be using the wrong terminology? Is it that I can browse the bookstore, but can't "sync" with it?
