I disagree. The OP was clear. i.e. "Is there a new Voyage coming out?"

Harry T did his normal trick of answering a different question with a response that matched his preconceptions. He always does this when someone asks what's the best e-ink device for reading pdf files (i.e. "Dont buy an e-reader to read pdf" even though it is possible to read pdf on an e-reader, and the question is "which is the best e-reader to do it, (if I choose to)?")

The user asks is it possible to read epub on a Kindle. The actual answer is maybe, but Harry T instead lambasts the idea of even trying. I suggest he try nuancing his responses with more information rather than dogmatically espousing his preconception to the exemption of all other possibilities.

And this thread is in the "Which one should I buy?" section, not general discussion!

I'm not saying there wasn't MORE afterwards, or that the thread should have stopped after the first response, but how can you DISAGREE about what was asked and answered?

And do you mean to defend the manner in which the OP refused to contribute more information to his own discussion?

I've owned every Kindle from the Keyboard on up. My recommendation is try it in person if possible. I personally think the Voyage is well made and a challenge to make major improvements on with the existing tech. This is why I think they did not go for a refresh this year. I don't think the category is dying yet and improvements will emerge. Amazon knows that readers that buy dedicated E-readers buy more books...especially premium device owners.

Do consider that whatever advancements that come to the Kindle line may be in a direction that may not be ideal for you...My hope- a Kindle Voyage 8"...but who knows. New screen tech will emerge...the question is when and what...Liquavista color displays...maybe...rumored Regal 2 screen tech...maybe.
Voyage take the plunge....my best guess is that if a Voyage 2 does emerge it will be in the Fall...

I certainly can't argue with "incomplete" but I cannot see how suggesting which reader to buy to someone who asked which reader to buy is dogmatic or unhelpful*.

Well, I am sure HarryT is allowed his opinions just like you are -- and his opinion in this thread was "don't wait to see if a new Voyage comes out, buy what fills your needs now".

That strikes me as a very legitimate response, thank you very much.

And regarding PDF and E-Ink ereaders, I would say the same thing -- first reconsider whether you actually want an E-Ink PDF reader, tablets are usually a much better fit.

The actual answer is "Why would you want to", and I lambasted the idea as well.

I'm in the same situation as you and over the past week have been having quite the bouncing back and forth on this decision. Long story short, I ended up finding tons of wifi-3g cellular capible kindle voyages on ebay that are factory refurbished for only $169 shipped including $0 tax. These come with a 90 day warranty backed by amazon. I decided to go with those.

If you're interested in the long story, I actually originally decided to go with a kobo glo hd, but was amazed that I wasn't even given a shipping number despite two days going by after my order on kobo.com I cancelled the kobo and went back to amazon's world. I can't believe how slow they are. I now have an item purchased on ebay that is on it's way to me and kobo is still sitting on my order waiting to ship my item out.

I can't count the number of times I've bought a device and the new model came out shortly after. I've never really minded that.

Back when I was working and could afford cars I nearly always bought leftover last year models. They were new for a few hundred dollars less. Not a good deal if you plan to trade it soon but I usually kept my cars from 8 to 12 years so it was a very good deal for me.

I kind of like buying the tried and true stuff. At times something new comes out that grabs me and I'll buy it but that doesn't happen often.

Well said. Honestly this rat race to keep up with the Jonses is kind of silly. I mean we were all alive two years ago and everyone was reasonably with the e-readers out there. I see no reason to be chasing the latest and greatest cars, computers, or eReaders. I know just posted about how I bought a Voyage, but honestly, I almost bought a kindle keyboard due to the dedicated buttons to turn the pages... I only went with the voyage after getting the refurb for $100 off the asking price on amazon.com for a non-refurb unit. And FWIW, Barry I do the same with you when it comes to cars. My 2008 Honda civic is still running like a champ without any issues whatsoever - knock on... steel!

Article seems to say e books sales went down in 2015 which would argue for not putting out a premium device. At the same time, the chip they are talking about will go into mass production in 2Q so perhaps a new kindle with faster page turning and smaller battery will come out for the summer or fall.

At any rate I bought the Voyage special offers at Amazon's used sale last week for $107 and they sent me one marked refurb with no special offers. Paperwhite 2 which I bought for $100 a year ago is going back to them for $50 gift card as I barely used it. Already I am using the Voyage more--mainly the lighter device means I hold it in one hand easier. It feels less nubby and I am not using a case although I carry it in an old kindle padded zipper case when I am not using it. But i also really like the power button at the back and the page buttons at the side and the faster page turning. Screen resolution at the font I am using only seemed marginally better.

Since they are still selling the voyage I am guessing in a year or two I can return this one to amazon for the same $50 gift card and it might hold up pretty well against any new device they put out this year. Also I think the paperwhite 3 from last year had only 2gb of storage vs 4 gb for the voyage but I could be wrong. Edit: i was wrong they both are 4gb

You were probably thinking of the PW2, which started life as 2GB, but then got silently replaced by the 4GB model which had previously only been sold in Japan.

I thought Amazon gave a full year warranty on refurbished Kindles. When did Amazon decide to change the warranty?

As for buying Kindles on eBay, a lot of them are blacklisted and you won't know until after the sale.

This likely doesn't matter to you now, but as an FYI Kobo tends to be terrible about sending tracking number but pretty good about shipping. Not all that unusual to see posts from people where the device shows up before the tracking email or about the same time as it finally arrives.
