Next up: Destiny's Forge by Paul Chafe and Larry Niven. A Man-Kzin war novel. Ah - except that I've already read it. It turns out I managed to buy it in a Baen webscription in April 2006, and in a Baen webscription in September 2007. And not notice that they were the same book in my database. So, next up: Star Flight by Andre Norton. An omnibus of The Stars are Ours and Star Born, also bought in September 2007. |

Saw this article on Teleread about Andy Weir (author of The Martian) writing some fanfic in the Ready Player One universe that has apparently been accepted as canon by Ernest Cline, so I had to read it.
Lacero by Andy Weir is a very short story giving some background for one of the characters in RP1, so don't read it unless you have read RP1 already. Took me about 5 minutes to read. |

New here. Recently read Joseph F. Parda's Traps, about shapeshifting werewolves. Not your usual horror story. Some bloodshed, but it also has some good messages. I liked that it showed some environmental and social awareness.
A couple of months ago read the same author's novel Beavers!, about giant killer mutant beavers, and enjoyed that one too. Last edited by ChadHardwood; 03-20-2016 at 10:35 AM. |

Finished Bloodsworth: The True Story of the First Death Row Inmate Exonerated by DNA Evidence by Tim Junkin. Compelling, though I was pretty sure I knew how it was going to end.
![]() Starting The Rules of Supervillainy by C.T. Phipps. Amusing; another anti-villain book like the Richard Roberts series I read earlier, but Roberts stays on top... this is a much faster read, despite the dropped words and formatting issues (if one of your main characters is going to speak in italics, you'd better make sure you're consistent with it), though it does have moments. Plenty of call-outs to the comic books and their creators. |

Just finished The Case of the Counterfeit Eye by Erle Stanley Gardner. This 1935 novel was the sixth Mason book and the first one in which Hamilton Burger makes his appearance. In real life, the courtroom stunt he pulled in this one would have certainly got him disbarred, but at least no one caught him planting evidence, which he also did in this book. One of the most fun Perry Mason books, and a re-read for me. The next book in the series is The Case of the Caretaker's Cat (1935),l but since I've already read that one, I just downloaded the eighth book in the series, The Case of the Sleepwalker's Niece (1936). I don't know when I'll get to it, though, as I'm still finishing up Dante's Divine Comedy and trying to whittle down my TBR list a bit.

I mean, it's fun and all, but it seems kind of silly to, for example, describe a building in terms of the plot of the movie Ghostbusters and then four chapters later describe a different building similarly by literally calling out the title Ghostbusters.

Early this morning I finished The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (tr. A.S. Kline) and polished off "How to Talk to Girls at Parties" by Neil Gaiman. Now I'm officially between books. Since the Book Club will probably nominate a work of fiction, I'm looking for a work of non-fiction to balance things out. I think I'll go with Through a Window: My Thirty Years with the Chimpanzees of Gombe by Jane Goodall. Yes. That's the one!

Finished The Rules of Supervillainy by C.T. Phipps. Amusing, but I've read better (as has already been noted).
Now reading The Gemini effect by Chuck Grossart. I was going to start reading Odd Thomas, but it turned out that I had borrowed the Swedish (or German?) version from the library, so I had to return that and put a hold on the English version. |

Just finished "Convergence", by Charles Sheffield. The fourth book in the "Heritage Universe" series, and the second half of the Baen "Transvergence" omnibus which is, unfortunately, no longer on sale to new purchasers, although still available for download for previous buyers such as me. An excellent continuation to this hard SF series about the exploration of ancient alien artefacts. Very much along similar lines to Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama". Highly recommended (if you can buy it!).

I'm in a rut. I have started 4 books in the last 3 days, and abandoned all of them. (Though only one of them permanently.) I just can't seem to latch onto something I want to read right now. Any and all suggestions are welcome, but I suspect it's going to have to just be a case of "waiting it out". Maybe stick to audio books for a bit, they seem to be less enervating. I'm certainly hoping for something to catch my fancy before the next Foreigner book is out on April 5.

Yeah, I've been doing a bit of that, Harry. It usually works for me, and I've been re-reading the Vorkosigan Saga. But I think I've overdosed on it. Was thinking of re-reading the Vatta's War series from Elizabeth Moon, since I know a new one is coming out finally. Or maybe a Georgette Heyer? Somehow, nothing seems to be working right now.
