I have a feeling this is the only Voyage we'll ever see. Most devices are replaced after a year with new model and this hasn't been. There were rumors just before that year was up and then they died out after. I haven't read about any rumors for a while and I read the tech and ebook blogs all day long, being retired.
I realize that I also haven't given you a decisive answer and I await my well deserved snarky reply. ![]() Barry |

I agree with barryem. I would be surprised if there is a Voyage 2. They did not release a second Fire HDX7.

One thing Amazon could do is make a larger screen Kindle using the Carta screen. Kobo is doing quite well with the H20 which uses a 6.8" screen. But that is not fact or even rumor.
You have two choices, buy now or wait an unknown amount of time for possibly nothing. |

What difference was there between the PW1 and PW2? Not a huge amount from what I remember (slightly improved contrast & faster processor), mainly they fixed the issue with the blotchy screen, and while the tone variant on the Voyage is nowhere near as much of an issue as the PW1 screen was, I wondered if they might release an updated Voyage that all but eliminates any issues with the screen lighting.
I guess it depends how big a seller the Voyage is compared to the PW whether or not its worthwhile for Amazon to bother. |

Remove the USB port and there goesside loading and the Voyage sales would then tank.
The only thing I can see Amazon doing to the Voyage is making it waterproof. |

Why? As a big stap to make it absolutely waterproof! If my Kobo H2O had had Qi charging, I'd have never had to open that USB compartment... And you can still sideload using Wifi and a browser... |

The main uses for the USB socket are:
1) charging 2) side-loading. Amazon patented wireless charging some time ago, so they won't need the USB socket for charging in the future. http://www.geekwire.com/2013/future-...vice-displays/ And removing the USB socket would makes sense. It would make the Kindle simpler and more self-contained, it would reinforce Amazon's walled-garden (no more hardware side-loading), and as sweetpea said, it would make the device easier to water-proof. |

So was the original response of "What does it matter?"
If we're not given any reasons or factors to consider, this thread is an utter waste of time. Might as well just post in the lounge and ask "Blue or Green?" if you're going to just leave us to speculate on a meaningless hypothetical with no information to base an opinion on. The OP just said "Tell me if I should wait to buy a non-existent future device that no one knows about, and I'm going to rudely refuse to tell you anything else about why I'm asking." I understand the OP question, and why he's asking.
A different way to say that, would be : What could we expect of a KV 2 ? 1) A lot of things better than the KV 1, so I should wait. 2) Minor improvements that won't make a KV 1 obsolete, so no reason to wait. Unfortunately, the answer would be only guessing. If we talk about hardware, I don't really see what a KV2 could improve. - Mabe a better and faster processor ? Nice, but the KV one is good enough. - A larger screen ? Why not, but not everbody would like something bigger. - Colors ? Don't hold your breath ![]() - Wireless charging ? Ok, but 'you'll have to buy a good charger (30$) There's the only Hardware improvement I can imagine. Last edited by frenshprince; 03-22-2016 at 11:15 AM. |

The OP wanted to know if a new Voyage is likely in the near future. A very valid and simple question. It sucks buying a device and the next version comes out shortly afterward.
To the OP. It will probably come out in autumn. I believe that is when Amazon normally upgrade models, but it's not certain. |

Whiter background may not be a concern for people who like the front light on all the time to emulate the white background. But I've been more and more preferring a clip-on light to a front light in a totally dark room. After about a year with a front-lit e-reader (PW2), I'm feeling bothered by a front light in a dark room about as much as by a back-lit LCD. I'm coming around to the camp of those here who say "a photon is a photon." (That doesn't explain why I'm preferring a clip-on light.) |

If the OP cares or is wondering about any of the factors you mention, he could simply have said so. Quote:
And you're both just guessing about understanding the question. The OP has not said what he really wants to know, and has rudely said he has no intention of explaining himself. What he ACTUALLY asked, "Buy a Voyage or wait for Voyage 2," Harry answered in the first post with "If a Voyage meets your needs, get it" and he got blasted for it. The only legitimate justification I can come up with for the response Harry got is if the OP saw "What does it matter?" as "It doesn't matter." Harry actually asked for more information, maybe the OP assumed he was dismissing the question. |
