Give links to the thread(s) where the posts you call as numberd #273 and #771 are located. Once I am certain I am reading the same thing(s) you read, I stand a chance of answering your question. |

Crap! Sorry. I know I made links when I originally posted.
Sooooooo I skipped right to the "simple install" post, and I didn't completely read Branch Delay's original instructions in post #273. I followed the simple instructions in post #769, and I was rewarded with "Jailbreak Success!" or some such happiness! Then I read that the jailbreak survives an update, so I let it update. But...as you have guessed...I didn't update using NiLuJe's .bin while I was still on 5.6.5. When I try to update with it now, it gives me a 007 Error. I know, I know. I should have read more. So...am I SOL? Links! Sorry about that. Basically, I saw Jailbreak Successful, and I thought I was done. |

Thanks, I think I have it now -
You started at (which has the jb.zip attachment): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=273 You stopped following that post before you reached: Quote:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=769 At which point you should have gone back to the second half of BD's post (quoted in part above - note that I swapped the two sentences). Ah, but you didn't . . . (story starts to turn downhill about here). Then you went ahead and did an Amazon (full) image update. At which point, yes, you are SOL. = = = = The first half of the instructions did just the very minimum to have a working jailbreak. The second half of the instructions **would have** install the "survival kit" for the jailbreak. Then the Amazon (full) image update over-wrote what you had done in the first part of BD's instructions. Translation of all of the above: Your device is in the same state it would have been in if you had never done the first part of the jailbreak instructions. (It could have been worse, you could have pressed: "Erase All" somewhere along the line.) Last edited by knc1; 03-17-2016 at 03:20 PM. |

Hi - I've got an PW2 with 5.6.5 and to the best of my ability followed the steps here.. I did the JB thing (got a jailbreak response), have KAUl, helper, MRR, korreader installed, applied the 1.14.N via MRR.
However - In Menu, Settings I don't see ** Jailbreak ** under reading options. Is there a way I can confirm that I have a permanent jailbreak? Was hoping to see something like: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/att...6&d=1447625133 Many Thanks in advance erosco |

The image on the screen has nothing to do with the notice at the bottom. If you can install one of our update_*.bin packages using MrPI - your jailbroken. There is no other indication. |

Did I manage to scrap the huge, bold, *this is a one-time message* mention somewhere in the docs again? :/

This is my first post here, so hello to everyone.
Thanks to all of your hard work I had successfully jailbroken my PW2 - serial number starts with 9017, FV 5.6.5. I've installed MRPI and KUAL. I want to stick to this version of firmware, but I'm sick of Aeroplane Mode. Can't we simply delete/move AMAZON keys from our devices to pernamently and utterly stop OTA? I'm loading all of my books via callibre, so i'm fine with losing DRM support, send to kindle, goodreads (or how it's called). Basically i don't use cloud related stuff at all. Unfortunately i couldn't find any info in Kindle Developer's Corner sticky threads or on wiki. Did anybody tried to do this ? PS. Sorry for my bad English, it isn't my native language.
