Thanks! Bought Assassin's Apprentice even though I own three physical copies already (paperback, UK special edition hardcover, UK anniversary edition hardcover) and have access to the epub via Calibre already. For $2, I'll help her sales numbers out again.

Easier to share with the wife this way, I'll get her to read it one of these days!! (Hobb is my favorite author).

If they priced ebooks at $2-$3 more frequently I'd buy SOOOO many books, but at $8-$17 I buy very little.

Looks like Humble Bundle has a Emerging Sci-Fi and Thriller Authors sale going on. Also, there's a LoTR Audiobook bundle, that expires in less than a week.

A BIG thank you.

I just bought 20 very interesting ebooks for $8.75.

I decided not to get the last 4 books.

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch (Gentleman Bastards series, Book 1) is currently $1.99 in the US

http://www.amazon.com/Lies-Locke-Lam.../dp/B000JMKNJ2
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...locke-lamora-1

An orphan’s life is harsh—and often short—in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges death and slavery, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentleman Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly. Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game—or die trying.

Many reviewers seem to classify this as a Fantasy (along with a bit of Mystery) - which makes it onto my 'Buy' list.

Thank you!

From David Pitt (American Library Association):

"....Lynch immediately establishes himself as a gifted and fearless storyteller, unafraid of comparisons to Silverberg and Jordan, not to mention David Liss and even Dickens (the parallels to Oliver Twist offer an appealing extra dimension to the story, although the novel is no mere reimagining of that Victorian classic). Fans of lavishly appointed fantasy will be in seventh heaven here, but it will be nearly as popular with readers of literary crime fiction. This is a true genre bender, at home on almost any kind of fiction shelf. Expect it to be among the year's most impressive debuts."

Thanks for this. It looks like this is for the Orbit UK versions and they are currently also 99c in Germany at Kobo and Google Play although strangely enough not at amazon.de. So others may want to check their local stores if they are able to get this version also.

There are apparently three (?) books in the series thus far. Have you had a chance to read those other titles?

I'm looking forward to starting that first one.

Yes, I've read them all. Good, but not as good as the first. But he's still on my auto-buy list.

Comment on first book. Comment on second book. Comment on third book.

It's interesting that my original thoughts on the book weren't as positive as they are now. But it clearly stayed with me, and I highly recommend it.
