Thanks!
This is one of those things where all we have are people's observations. |

Just a quick info: the jailbreak did survive an update to 5.7.3 on my Kindle Voyage.

Downloaded 5.7.3 and put it on my Voyage with an update.bin folder with update.bin blank file inside. Also have update.bin.tmp.partial folder. Update your kindle was available and it appeared to start the update, but did not complete. At one point the Voyage appeared to be frozen but with a power button restart all is well. The only thing lost was the last read entry in koreader and the position in the book. Update file is gone and Voyage is still on 5.7.2.

For those who are nervous, I can confirm that the jailbreak survives an upgrade to 5.7.3 also (from 5.7.2.1 in my case), although you have to re-apply your bin hacks (but not your extensions).
So far haven't noticed any difference but, like others, I hope it improves battery drain. |

My jailbroken KT2 remained intact after 5.7.3 update, but I believe the 5.7.2.1 batterry issues were not fixed.
My advice: If possible, do not update (yet) if you're running 5.6.5. |

I've been running first 5.7.2.1 and then 5.7.3 for several weeks now, and have noticed no discernible change in battery life from 5.6.5.

Because at the moment, it looks like cvm (the Java virtual machine) is stuck in a tight loop doing nothing. And that in both PW3-5.6.1.1 and in KV-5.7.3 |

If it's doing it on 5.6.1, though, that's hardly a reason not to upgrade from 5.6.5 to 5.7.3, surely? Ie it's not a change in behaviour from 5.6.x to 5.7.x.

The behavior is the same or similar, but the cause is unknown.
The cause may be fixable in one version and not in another. So I would also suggest holding off until we can get some idea about what is going on. Note: There are 33 pages of open positions at lab126: https://lab126.com/open-positions.htm A large number of them 'senior' positions. And 17 pages of them in 'software development' and 'software engineering' - we should consider ourselves lucky these things even boot. For the moment, we have this hint in the cvm start-up script: Code:
# for now reverted due to massive slowdowns related to frequent full GC, # see CEL-5542, https://reviewboard.corp.lab126.com/r/33335/, CEL-10802, CEL-10330 But if it is a problem with garbage collection in the closed source cvm (hardware assisted, Java virtual machine) we may just have to wait until lab126 can hire someone that can solve their problem. Sooooooo I skipped right to the "simple install" post, and I didn't completely read Branch Delay's original instructions in post #273. I followed the simple instructions in post #771, and I was rewarded with "Jailbreak Success!" or some such happiness! Then I read that the jailbreak survives an update, so I let it update. But...as you have guessed...I didn't update using NiLuJe's .bin while I was still on 5.6.5. When I try to update with it now, it gives me a 007 Error.
I know, I know. I should have read more. So...am I SOL? |

Hello =)
I jailbreaked my Pw 2, changed screensaver etc. Then I updated it over OTA. Now I have Version 5.7.2.1 and I lost my screensaver, KUAL and maybe jailbreak? I have two different Update_jailbreak_bridge_1.14.N_install.bin files. The file from this thread will install, but I don't have any KUAL launcher etc. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...postcount=1597 Did I lost my jailbreak? Edit: Forget it just don't choose All in the home screen Last edited by eschwartz; 03-14-2016 at 11:49 PM. Reason: no code tags -- that isn't code ??? |

I have a jailbroken Voyage, and am getting ready to update to 5.7.3. Should I do the update using the KUAL, or do it the old way by putting it in the root directory and then using the menu to update?
Also, when I re-install the screensaver hack, do I need to reinstall the "kindle-python-0.14.N-pw2_kt2_kv_pw3" file and then the "kindle-linkss-0.24.N-r13003.tar.xz" file, or just the linkss file? |

Amazon packages still use the 'old way'. It would not hurt to freshen both - You can put both in /mrpackages at the same time, MrPI can handle more than a single package at a time. |
