Is there perhaps a pdf of images offered by the publisher as a companion to the audiobook?

I know I got my copy from Amazon Marketplace for significantly less, but I don't know what's out there right now. I know some OverDrive libraries have it; it's very large file.

More of them need to do this! Maps can be critical to understanding a book; their lack bothers me even more than the pictures.

Sorry, I meant that as a general statement to give people an idea of costs.

I got rid of all my coffee table books except for one - a massive 2-vol edition of The Far Side

Nice of you to make the effort; I took the lazy girl's way out. I verified nothing.

Downpour -- Rental of the Week -- exp 14 Mar

$1.99 -- Dark Tides -- Chris Ewan / Alex Tregear (11.2 hrs) --> R= 4.5 --> 30 day rental

Quote:
Mysteries & Thrillers > Police Procedurals

When another Halloween brings an additional death, a young police officer on the Isle of Man suspects they are connected to dark secrets in her own past.

When Claire Cooper was eight years old her mother mysteriously vanished during Hop-tu-naa, Halloween on the Isle of Man. At fourteen, Claire is still struggling to come to terms with her disappearance when she’s befriended by a group of five teenagers who mark every Halloween by performing dares. But Claire’s arrival begins to alter the group’s dynamic until one year a prank goes terribly wrong, changing all their futures and tearing the friends apart.

Six years later, one of the friends is killed on Halloween in an apparent accident. But Claire, now a police officer, has her doubts. Is a single footprint found near the body a deliberate taunt? As another Halloween dawns, bringing with it another death and another footprint, Claire becomes convinced that somebody is seeking vengeance. But who? And which of the friends might be next? If she is going to stop a killer and unlock the dark secrets of her past, Claire must confront her deepest fears—before it’s too late.

Chris Ewan, author of the stand-alone thrillers Safe House and Dead Line, returns to the Isle of Man with a thriller that will keep you up all night.

$4.95 -- Planetfall -- Emma Newman / Emma Newman (10.0 hrs) --> R= 3.7

Quote:
Sci-Fi & Fantasy > Sci-Fi: Contemporary

A Barnes & Noble Best Book of 2015 Selection for Science Fiction and Fantasy

Renata Ghali believed in Lee Suh-Mi’s vision of a world far beyond Earth, a planet promising to reveal the truth about our place in the cosmos, untainted by overpopulation, pollution, and war. Ren believed in that vision enough to give up everything to follow Suh-Mi into the unknown.

More than twenty years have passed since Ren and the rest of the faithful braved the starry abyss and established a colony at the base of an enigmatic alien structure where Suh-Mi has since resided, alone. Ren has worked hard as the colony’s 3-D printer engineer, creating the tools necessary for human survival in an alien environment—and harboring a devastating secret.

For the good of her fellow colonists, Ren continues to perpetuate the lie forming the foundation of the colony, despite the personal cost. Then a stranger appears, far too young to have been part of the first planetfall, a man who bears a remarkable resemblance to Suh-Mi.

The truth Ren has concealed since planetfall can no longer be hidden, and its revelation could tear the colony apart.

Tantor is having a sale of all titles narrated by their 2016 Audie finalists. MP3-CDs are 50% off and most of the downloads are $6.99 (a few titles have to be bought at Audible).

Hunger Games Trilogy -- Suzanne Collins / Carolyn McCormick (R= 4.4) --> YA Dystopian

Quote:
Teens > Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Series: Hunger Games, book 1

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
Quote:
Series: Hunger Games, book 2

Katniss Everdeen continues to struggle to protect herself and her family from the Capitol in this second novel from the best-selling Hunger Games trilogy.
Quote:
Series: Hunger Games, book 3

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena live, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge....

$1.95 -- Bream Gives Me Hiccups -- Jesse Eisenberg / J Eisenberg, et al (4.5 hrs) --> R= 4.0

Quote:
Fiction > Contemporary

Bream Gives Me Hiccups is the whip-smart fiction debut of Academy Award-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg. Known for his iconic film roles but also for his regular pieces in the New Yorker and his two critically acclaimed plays, Eisenberg is an emerging literary voice.

Taking its title from a group of stories that begin the book, Bream Gives Me Hiccups moves from contemporary LA to the dorm rooms of an American college to ancient Pompeii, throwing the reader into a universe of social misfits, reimagined scenes from history, and ridiculous overreactions. In one piece, a tense email exchange between a young man and his girlfriend is taken over by his sister, who is obsessed with the Bosnian genocide ("The situation reminds me of a little historical blip called the Karadordevo agreement"); in another, a college freshman forced to live with a roommate is stunned when one of her ramen packets goes missing ("She didn't have one of my ramens. She had a chicken ramen"); in another piece Alexander Graham Bell has teething problems with his invention ("I've been calling Mabel all day, she doesn't pick up! Yes, of course I dialed the right number - two!").

United by Eisenberg's gift for humor and character, the witty pieces collected in Bream Gives Me Hiccups explore the various insanities of the modern world and mark the arrival of a fantastically funny, self-ironic, and original voice.

$9.95 -- The Great Hunger -- Cecil Woodham-Smith / Frederick Davidson (18.4 hrs) --> R= 3.7

Quote:
History > American

The Great Hunger is the story of one of the worst disasters in world history: the Irish Potato Famine of the 1840s. Within five years, one million people died of starvation. Emigrants by the hundreds of thousands sailed for America and Canada in small, ill-equipped, dangerously unsanitary ships. Some ships never arrived; those that did carried passengers already infected with and often dying of typhus.

The Irish who managed to reach the United States alive had little or no money and were often too weak to work. They crowded into dirty cellars, begged, and took whatever employment they could get. Epidemics, riots, and chaos followed in their wake.

The Great Hunger is a heartbreaking story of suffering, insensitivity, and blundering stupidity; yet it is also an epic tale of courage, dignity, and - despite all odds - a hardly supportable optimism.

Cecil Blanche Woodham-Smith (1896-1977) was a British historian and biographer. She wrote four popular history books, each dealing with a different aspect of the Victorian era.

Just a note. The Hobbit and LotR performances in this bundle are abridged dramatizations that played on NPR, not the unabridged audiobooks. Not anything wrong with that, but thought I'd point it out.
