Thanks Updated to 6.3.6a. Confirmed to work with ADE version 2.01. Confirmed to work with K4PC version 1.14.0 (43019), latest as of Jan 18, 2016. oboK installed, but not tested. I normally don't use the Kobo application. |

My observation from reading a number of Alf posts over the last number of days is that decryption isn't working with particular Amazon purchases. It seems that Amazon may have changed something or other and the tools aren't working ..... |

My K4PC is still on V1.12.2 and a DRM book I got yesterday (freebie) worked. But Paul tested the newest version of K4Mac and the tools didn't work. Edit Here's one comment: "No way to get DRM removed. Tried Kindle 1.15, 1.14, 1.13, with no success. I get the same error about default key… Seems that Amazon changed some parts of the algorithm…" Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 03-08-2016 at 05:06 PM. Reason: add the edit |

I got the message about updating. I won't do it until I actually have to. I'm on 1.12.2.

It does seem that Amazon changed something in recent (1.13+?) versions of Kindle for Mac, and possibly Kindle for PC, so that the decryption key cannot be obtained for new installations of Kindle for Mac. (switching hats) Please note that detailed discussion of how to fix this is definitely not allowed at MobileRead. Those interested should go to Apprentice Alf's blog, or Apprentice Harper's github. |

Is there any risk in upgrading an existing K4PC installation, or is this a problem that's only affecting new installations?

At the risk of getting into details that we're not allowed to do, it does seem to only affect new installations at the moment. Updates to old installations seem to keep the same key.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Yes, upgrading clearly must keep the same key because you can still read books you downloaded prior to the upgrade. An upgrade which forced you to redownload all your books would be a real pain!

Even easier for the new software to read both encryption types and just download any new books with the new method.

Also, I found Amazon moved stuff around. My content is now in: Users > Home > Library > Application Support > Kindle > My Kindle Content In K4Mac 1.12.x and earlier, my content was in Users > Home > Library > Containers > com.amazon.Kindle > Data > Library > My Kindle Content Haven't updated to 1.14 or 1.15, and now I'm afraid to
