Heretofore, I haven't made any special effort to check WarGameVault's daily specials. Reason being, most of the specials are computer games and related items--manuals and such like. I have zero interest in those things. But, every couple of weeks or so, they offer an ebook on things like history. Those are things that I sink my teeth into. Concerning the smallness of the preview at WarGameVault, I went to the publishers' website to see if they have a preview with any more or any different material, and on the product's webpage, it offered a link to the "table of contents and excerpts." Well, the table of contents was there, but no excerpts. (Speaking of the publisher, you might be interested in knowing that they had a price of $45.00 on the softcover on this book.) Google Books is also a source for previews. They don't have previews on anywhere close to all of the books that they have. But when they have previews--I think that I am correct in saying this--they are always extensive. Their "snippet view," however, is next to worthless. I have been wanting to compile a list of all of the places that I can come up with where a person possibly can find reviews on a book. There are several others, in addition to the retailers, the publisher, and Google Books. It's interesting to me that each source often has different parts of a book previewed. You might find this interesting. I was looking for previews recently on an expensive scholarly book that I was interested in. By the time that I had found all of the previews, I realized that I might have on my hands the content of the entire book! Of course, there are at least two issues: 1) the legality of copying and compiling a book that way, and 2) the practicality of copying all of the text. And what would you have on your hands when you got through? A messy collage of texts. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-07-2016 at 03:57 PM.

Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation by Blake J. Harris is $1.99 at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Console-Wars-N...s=console+wars Below is the blurb: Following the success of The Accidental Billionaires and Moneyball comes Console Wars—a mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry. In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But that would all change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a man who knew nothing about videogames and everything about fighting uphill battles. His unconventional tactics, combined with the blood, sweat and bold ideas of his renegade employees, transformed Sega and eventually led to a ruthless David-and-Goliath showdown with rival Nintendo. The battle was vicious, relentless, and highly profitable, eventually sparking a global corporate war that would be fought on several fronts: from living rooms and schoolyards to boardrooms and Congress. It was a once-in-a-lifetime, no-holds-barred conflict that pitted brother against brother, kid against adult, Sonic against Mario, and the US against Japan. Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars is the underdog tale of how Kalinske miraculously turned an industry punchline into a market leader. It’s the story of how a humble family man, with an extraordinary imagination and a gift for turning problems into competitive advantages, inspired a team of underdogs to slay a giant and, as a result, birth a $60 billion dollar industry. |

A Couple of FREE Pdf Books about Old Barns--From the National Preservation Trust.

The National Preservation Trust, a non-profit organization in the U.S., has a couple of pretty cool free books about barns available on their website. With the organization being dedicated to the preservation and restoration of old buildings, these books are primarily about . . . you guessed it . . . the preservation and restoration of old barns. As you might suspect, both of these ebooks are in the pdf format. There are lots of cool photos of old barns in these books, but you won't mistake these books for being coffee table books. And, these books are much smaller than most coffee table books. But, then, you don't have to pay for these like you would most coffee table books, either. Barn Again! A Guide to Rehabilitation of Older Farm Buildings. Historic Barns: Working Assets for Sustainable Farms. |

So right now the WS deal (ebook, audio, syncing) is only $5.48. Compare that to Audible's $22.95 for the audio alone. This is a 512-page book, so the audio will be very long, giving you great bang for the buck (for you in the U.K., punch for the pound). I'm not really interested in reading the book, but the audio is very tempting. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-17-2016 at 07:06 PM.
