I am running 3.19.5761 and I've applied some of the patches. I have no unusual battery drain with my H2O.

3.19.5761 Aura HD Battery drain over one night

I have the same problem. A fully charged Aura HD drains in 24-36 hours. This is ridiculous. No patches, no anything else than the standard Kobo stuff. I am mad.

Try a factory reset and then reinstall the latest firmware and see what happens.

No, first reinstall the current firmware. If that doesn't help, do the factory reset. But, take a full copy of the drive first. That way you can get back to the same state if the factory reset doesn't help.

I've had my H2O drain in about 3 hours when a sync process over wifi got stuck while I was in an area that had either no wifi or very weak wifi.

Power cycling it and turning off wifi stopped the drain.

Having some BAD problems on the two 3.19 firmwares.
What i have tried is this.
1, Updated from 3.18.0 to 3.19.5761 (with kobo prg) and had problems.
2, Did a factory reset, still had problems.
3, Applied 3.19.5761 again after the reset, no change as in problem still there.
4, Downgraded to 3.19.5613, same problem.
5, Downgraded to 3.18.0, worked fine as it did from the start.
6, Factory reset again and then immediately upgraded to 3.19.5761, same problem again.
7, Tried using the patch (that i never even tried before so not what was/is the problem), same problem's again.
8, Down to 3.18.0 again (after i undid the patch on 3.19) which works fine again.

The problem i have is two different problems.
1, is that whatever file i try to open pdf/txt/epub/kepub/mobi and a couple of others the first time i "open" the file it opens to a blank page and only shows the title nothing else.
And after that i can do nothing have tried clicking/tapping everywhere and waited for minutes absolutely nothing happens.
If i press the powerbutton and set the kobo to sleep and wake it up again i can tap and gets the menu and can go back to library/etc and then i can open the same file again and it works fine (BUT only the same file).

And by fine i mean it works like it should and it works just as fast as on fw 3.18 to flip pages zoom/etc.
But if i close it and try ANY other file its a blank screen with title again and a sleep/wakeup makes that file work fine and no other files (including the one i tried before) works without sleep/wakeup.

It is the same for free books from kobo and imported files from calibre and i could put them on internal (with or whitout a sd card plugged in) or sd card (tried two sd card) with no difference at all webbrowser and games i did not even try.

2, The second problem is that if i do a restart with the reset/restart button besides the usb port it restarts fine and i can do things for about 10sek then the kobo is 100% locked up as in nothing happens when tapping/clicking power button backlight stays on for ever (i assume it did stay on for 3 hours while i did go shopping/ate/bashed my head against something hard in frustation).
Not even the reset/restart button does anything and connecting it to pc does nothing as in can not se it on pc at all.

The only thing that works is to hold power button down for about 30sek and it do restart but locks up really fast again.
IF i manage to connect the usb after it has booted to the kobo start screen (connect before that and the connect screen never shows up) and hit connect when that pops up but before it locks up (it is really close and took a few tries before timing it right) it do connect to the pc and moving files and so from the pc works fine (hence i could go back too 3.18).

The second time i upgraded to 3.19.5761 i played around longer then the first and the kobo worked ok and i could sleep and restart (as in more then sleep) with the power button fine and it "worked" fine besides the "blank screen issue" for every "new" file you opened.
And then tried pressing the reset/restart button and bam restart and then lock up.
After a factory reset it was back to working with the blank screen issue again and one click on the reset/restart button and lockups where back again.
After that i was done testing and went back to 3.18.

Have been reading for a couple of hours in the last 3 days after this and 3.18 works as it used to so i have a hard time believing it could be a hardware issue.
If it where a hardware issue some problem would probably have shown up by now right?
So anyone have any thoughts on what the h*?

Firmware 3.19.5613 replaced the two Japanese fonts Ryumin and Gothic by other fonts. This caused problems on some devices. I think only the font that replaced Ryumin caused a problem. Anyway, you might try to avoid having any book associated with one of the Japanese fonts before upgrading to 3.19.x. References to these fonts might be in the configuration file and in the database. If you have already upgraded, try to remove the references to the font "KBJ-TsukuMin Pr6N RB". Of course, I do not know whether this actually is your problem. I believed that this affected only older models, but who knows?

Sorry that is not my problem.
Pretty sure i do not have any books with any japanese fonts but even if i had after the "6, Factory reset again and then immediately upgraded to 3.19.5761, same problem again." i only tested with a few small epub and txt files that diffidently did not have any jap fonts.

But thanks for answering.

Odd as my H2O is working as it should with the latest 3.19 firmware.

It isn't the use of Japanese, but the use of the two new fonts that is the problem. The two new fonts (replacements for Gothic and Ryumin) can be used for other languages. But, some people reported problems that sound like yours when using these fonts. These are not the default fonts for reading, so the problems should not appear after a factory reset unless you change the reading font to one of these.

I can't think of anything apart from the font issues that would not be hardware related. But, as the reset to 3.18 is OK, it doesn't sound like a hardware problem.

I've seen this as well, with txt files!!

It almost felt like it opened the file to the last page or with the "cover" zoomed 10000% or something. If I'm able to get out of the book, next time I go in it seems ok.

It has happened to me maybe 3-4 times, and two of those I power cycled, but I got out of it once without power cycling.

I've also had problems with the screen skipping a refresh after a long running activity, so it looks like it is hung. The safest thing I've found to do in this situation is tap the top middle. If it skipped a refresh, this either brings up the toolbar or the toolbar menu immediately. If it hasn't finished yet, that will do the same when it does probably.

Resetting that way has a high chance of corrupting your database, and the database corruption could just as easily cause all kinds of strange stuff.

Dictionary spoiled

Navigating in the dictionary by long tapping a word and thereby jumping to the corresponding article has been removed. I can't believe it.
I think it went away in 3.17 already (it IS still present in 3.16), so it probably won't come back. This kind of navigation in the dictionary was the most important firmware improvement I saw in three years.

This occasionally happens to me, but I override it by just tapping in the middle to get the menu and then press the navigation bar on the bottom and select » to move to the next chapter and then everything works fine. Hope it helps.
