I haven't tried KOReader yet, maybe something to play with next weekend. My pdf (the ones that I care to read on a 6" reader anyway) are text only (aside for the cover image). I've been wanting to take a closer look at the epub format for a while so I tried to get one converted yesterday. It's slow work, though... but I managed to get half of the book in proper epub format (validated even!) last night. Not sure I'll do all of my pdfs this way... |

NOTE: PdfMasher is an unfinished and no longer maintained piece of software. The author became bored with ebooks and stopped further development. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 02-01-2016 at 07:29 PM. |

			Hi,

In 2009, I posted the following as key requirements of e reader. Planning to buy an e reader given the advancements both in e ink n powerful tablets. 1. Read PDF annual reports with tables, graphics, tabulated financial statements, need reflow that support the format, 2. Read PDF financial accounting books, investment books, Chartered Financial Analyst CFA financial text also in PDF format, 3. Ability to annotate n note taking for meetings, 4. Read epubs, mobi novels, health, investment books 5. Dictionary. Currently, am using Ipad air for such functions, planning to upgrade to either one of the following 1. Samsung tab S2 9.7 inch or ipad air 2 plus a good 6 inch e reader. Read PDFs on tablet using moon+, or any PDF app with good reflow capabilites especially keep the tabulated financial statements, Use 6 inch for epubs n mobi as it is lighter n eye strain friendly. Any PDF app recommendation n 6 or 6.8 inch e reader ? 2. Keep ipad air but invest in a good 8 or 10 inch e reader that can reflow PDF with or without stylus capabilites? Any recommendations ? 3. Upgrade to expensive ipad pro with pencil or other tablets with stylus and read mobi n epub with entry level e reader ? Any recommendations ? 4. Any other recommendations ? Thank you. |

I know you said you don't want to buy from Amazon. But I'll just throw in that I've had great luck with PDFs on my Paperwhite 2, using one or the other of

	- Amazon's "convert" send-to-kindle service. For example, this three-column PDF reflowed perfectly (except it botched formatting the table on the lower right of the first page, instead treating it as flowing text). The conversion e-mail I sent was very simple: "convert" in the Subject line and the PDF attached. The conversion was free over wi-fi, but perhaps this service isn't available for you in China? - k2pdfopt. I've had good luck with letting k2pdfopt convert imaged PDFs into landscape, and I can usually read them. It handles multiple-column PDFs and text PDFs too. I also have an 8.9" Kindle DX and a 9.4" tablet, and find myself using them about equally for reading PDFs. |

Adobe is working on a new PDF file type that is reflowable but I don't know if it has been released to the public yet.

One news link. How to make a reflowable PDF from a Word 2000 document. Just to give you an idea of what goes one. |

That sounds good, Dale. But how do I test rewrapping on a Win 7 PC? Each time I resize the Adobe PDF window the document page size stays the same. Is there a flag I have to set in Adobe Distiller? Or a menu item I have to turn on when I view the PDF?

I'd like to test this rewrapping on my PC, then on my Android device which has a smaller screen. |

I'm still resisting the urge to buy a Kindle. I've tried using their desktop and android app, and I hate it. All the hoops I have to jump just to get access to the actual file... I'm also afraid that I would be locked to the Amazon China content. @jj2me: If I need to convert the file, I consider it unsupported. I've had to give up on "Tod in Venedig" (Death in Venise) because of the crappy Kobo dictionary... It couldn't find any of the words I looked up. I'm looking into the new Onyx models, or maybe a Boyue, with android. I kind of miss my PRS505. It didn't have a dictionary but pdf reflow and many options to access books... Many more than Kobo does! I almost got my hands on a hanvon E920H (Triton 2)... it's out of stock and their sales representative informed me that they were not planning on making new color devices in the future. So disappointed! |

The Kindle has very little in common with Kindle for PC. It also has an excellent dictionary and if you aren't happy with it for some reason other dictionaries are available.

What "hoops"? You open the book in K4PC and the file is there in the "My Documents\My Kindle Content" folder. What's difficult about that?
