Just finished A Mighty Fortress and started The Martian.

My listening habits will change a bit after the end of this week. I'm going to be working from home for the next six months (they are renovating the office building), so I won't have nearly as much car time nor will I need to block out the office noise.

I was just going back to this thread and noticed this. Looking up Sherlock Holmes on Audible, I see the Patrick Tull readings of the Sign of the Four, Hound of the Baskervilles, Valley of Fear and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. In addition, I see one of my favorite readers, Simon Vance, doing the Complete Sherlock Holmes: the Heirloom Collection (list price $70, only $50 with my membership for almost 60 hours of reading). I decided to get Sign of the Four and the Complete Sherlock Holmes. It should be a great book to listen to as background.

Finished Jennifer McMahon's The One I Left Behind, which turned out not to have any supernatural/paranormal elements after all, for which I say yay! Wish she would just abandon the woo-woo.

Now I'm listening to Emily Arsenault's latest, The Evening Spider, narrated by Bernadette Dunne and Nan McNamara. It has two timelines and two POV characters (who decided that almost every domestic thriller these days has to have multiple timelines?). I'm not too far into it yet, but I have high hopes, since I've enjoyed all of Arsenault's previous books.

Yea, the movie was pretty amazing. Did they rename NASA guy in the movie? They call him Vincent and he's black, while unless I'm mishearing, he's Venkat in the audiobook and has an Indian accent.

Somehow, that didn't happen. Instead I am stuck in a marathon listen to the entire Vorkosigan Saga from Lois McMaster Bujold, all read by Grover Gardner who is one of my favourites. I'm on #13 I think it is, Komarr. I've really been enjoying this. I've read all these in ebook or dead tree versions before, and some of the early ones in audio format. But this time it's pretty much all audio and I'm enjoying it.

Sharpe will have to wait a bit, but I've got him loaded up on the phone so he won't be long now.

Dances happy dance!!! Another person hooked on the Vorkosigan saga! Though if you've read them before, I guess you aren't a *new* convert. Still, it all counts!

Just finished The Bonobo and the Atheist: In Search of Humanism Among the Primates by Frans de Waal (narrated by: Jonathan Davis) and thoroughly enjoyed this exploration into the origins of human morality. It is the author's view that kindness and empathy are products of our evolutionary history and social structures rather than something imposed from without.

Now I'm officially between audiobooks.

The Evening Spider was OK, but the resolution of one of the dual storylines was a bit unsatisfying. I followed that up with Arcadia Falls, by Carol Goodman. I mostly enjoyed this one--another book with a somewhat similar setup, where the protagonist uncovers information about the past, mostly through a previously hidden journal. Every time I read this kind of story, I find the past events so much more compelling than the present-day events. Arcadia Falls seemed to drag on a bit too long, the twists weren't all that twisty, and it had too many characters to keep track of. Still, I enjoyed it and will add this author's other works to my wish list.

I'm not sure what to listen to next . . .

Just started the third Cormoran Strike novel, Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith, read by Robert Glenister. Really enjoyed the previous two, and this hasn't disappointed yet .

Having finished Vorkosigan up through Winterfair Gifts, I think I'm going to take a break from Miles for a bit and read something different. I've got both Sharpe's Eagle and Career of Gold loaded up on my phone and iPod. Not sure which will get the nod first. Perhaps Sharpe for the pool, and Strike and Ellacotte for the road.

I'm in the middle of "Dr. No."
I think this is only the second of Ian Fleming's Bond novels I've read, though I've read the various short stories and some of the post-Fleming novels. It's...
um...quaint...in it's period misogyny and bigotry.

Finished up The Martian. Very, very good. Some pretty big differences between the book and the movie. Both were good, but I liked the book better. I was very amused that Project Elrond was in the book. I thought it was something thrown into the movie because of Sean Bean.
