Surely you have something in your TBR that would fit in with your challenges?

I am cleaning out my freebies. I have started with the cookbooks. First time through the requirement is a working table of contents. I have deleted over 200 so far. 53 by one author alone.

@pdurrant and issybird: you're talking nonsense.
![]() I'm just going to have to do some searching. I think I'll take the easier genres that I know are more difficult for me to find new countries for and read whatever I find. As you suggest I should probably just read and worry about the lists later. All I need to do is find a genre I haven't read yet and go with that. Thriller. That should be easy with lots of things available. |

Alright. Crisis averted. Managed to find a thriller book that wasn't on loan.

English books from Western Africa are appreciated. They are the hard ones to find translation services for. Although I managed The Gambia and have a Guinea one lined up too. Anything from the the South Pacific as well.
Thanks for keeping me spend free everyone. |

Time for my February wrap-up and it's very much a good news, bad news scenario.
The quite good: I've bought only five books for an outlay of only $9 (does not include Prime shipping credits, which do not count!). So I'm cruising on that front. The outlay is trivial and the accumulation isn't bad, either, considering I read 12 books this month (and will probably finish another today). But. Of the 12 books I've read this month, once I eliminate paper books, OverDrive books, public domain books and audiobooks, I'm left with exactly one ebook which I bought. So I've added a net four books to the virtual stack that is my Hydra-headed elibrary. |

I've only added 2 books to my library since using up the last of my mountain of no-rush credits a few weeks ago. Both of these books were free (1 from Kindle First and 1 from Samsung free book thingy)
However there's a £12 Amazon credit coming my way. They've just recalled some UK power adapters that were bundled with the Fire 7" - options are either get a free replacement adapter or a £12 credit to you account ![]() |

Well, I should be able to make a better dent in my TBR pile soon. I finished editing a book that's been eating a lot of my time and mental energy, the author's got it up for preorder, and I should be able to tie off the last bits of that project when the edits for a short story come back. (I still need to build the omnibus that includes all three shorts. That'll be fun.)
Anyway, I think it may be time for something completely silly. I picked up some digital Deadpool collections for $4 each, and I've got the last volume (as in, series conclusion) of a manga series on hand, so I might hit those this weekend. Meanwhile, I've been grinding through Perk's apps as opportunity permits... which, since I can let Perk TV run on a tablet while I work, is pretty much all the time. If I'm not using the device for anything else, I can rack up a couple of thousand points in a day. A point is worth a tenth of a cent, and earning Perk points lets me convert some of my Viggle backlog over, so on average I can snag a $25 Amazon gift card in four to six days. I've picked up a few inexpensive wishlist books with that credit, but I prefer to reserve it for Blu-rays. The important thing is that it's a way to drop my entertainment budget quite a bit. Now, if only I could find a way to apply Amazon Visa reward points to ebooks... |

Have you tried buying an Amazon Gift Card with your Visa Rewards? I don't see why that wouldn't work. Then attach the Gift Card to your account. That will catch all those little purchases. You just need to remember to UNCHECK the Gift Card residue when you buy something else from Amazon. Unfortunately, if you buy a special deal, like the Echo Dot, it doesn't give you a choice and then you have to go to Customer Service to have them fix it (ask me how I know this?). Finally, you read the funniest titles. I mean the titles are funny....sometimes the book is only so-so, but you keep sucking me in. ![]() Last edited by Tarana; 03-05-2016 at 11:09 AM. |

I'm glad. I found that most of my books were N. American or European authors. Not much outside of that (I primarily read scifi, fantasy and murder mysteries. Although, that said, William Stuart Long (aka Vivian Stuart) could qualify as an Australian author, if you need one.

Sigh. With the SF Humble Bundle, I'm now up 36 ebooks on the start of the year. And I've just bought the first ten of Lindsey Davis's Falco series, since they're on offer today at £0.99 each at Amazon UK. Luckily they're not going on my TBR list, as I've already read them in paper. This was more a purchase so that I can discard the paper copies.
I am not doing too well this year! |
