What is the difficulty with Asimov's? Do you not want to use an app?

I want to be able to download them to my computer, strip the DRM, and convert/sideload to whatever device I'm currently using.

I'm not sure that's possible with the kobo offering.

Yes me too. I was hoping to buy Asimov's from Google play (instead of Nook), but that looks like you have to use their Newstand app.

My UK and US accounts seem to be effectivelly the same and linked, I did sign up for both separately but with the same (UK) email and address. I don't think their backend system could cope.

They had a fire sale for 20 quidish available pretty much everywhere, got mine from Argos I think, or possibly curry's.

Point is they were so much cheaper for a while there must be a reasonable amount of people with them around.

Still the best eink device for detection of footnote links, I think I only read Terry Pratchett on mine

That fire sale when you could buy the basic Nook for £25 and the Glowlight for £49 is pretty much the only reason why there are a reasonable number of them circulating in the UK. Unfortunately for B&N, apart from the low price the other big attraction was the ability to fairly easily root it. Lots of people grabbed one for this reason, and then probably wouldn't have bought a single book from B&N.

I wonder if this will any effect on registering a Nook after a factory reset? I would expect the pennypinchers at B&N to have already decided what they can use the freed-up servers for.

The HD+ is a gorgeous machine for reading pdf & cbr books & comics but it does seem to get itself in a knot from time to time and need resetting. Maybe something to do with the vintage version of Android 4.0.4.

I quite buying, even sale books from Nook once they eliminated the ability to downoad books onto the computer. Prior to that I made a point of downloading all purchases at the time of purchase. I keep all books in Calibre.

Yes. I tried buying a couple of issues of Ellery Queen's and Hitchcock's magazines -- also Dell magazines. I had to go through the newsstand. They are (technically) DRM-free, but they came down as PDF pages (without the .pdf suffix) and the file names are undecipherable to a mere human. So while I could display an individual page on any device that I had, I couldn't reassemble the magazine. And of course, the PDF pages looked pretty poor on my non-tablet ereaders.
