Well, does any real developer at Kobo actually read this forum and thread? If not, there's your answer.

You're making a big mistake here; It's not the developers who decide what to implement; it's marketing.

My first e-reader was Original Kobo Wifi. I have seen many new and improved features added to firmware over the years that were requested in firmware feature requests thread and bugs reported in new firmware version threads that were fixed.

First Kobo firmware I used, when I highlighted word in a book only result, a definition was displayed. While much better than going from paper book to paper dictionary for a definition, computers have been doing better for many years. I pointed out that my Sony T1 gave more choices beyond a definition and while they could not just copy Sony's method of choice there were many other ways to do it better.
This and all of the other new features did not happen instantly, and no response from Kobo in this thread. We shouldn't expect a Kobo response about future new features which are trade secrets. Recent reviews of Kobo Readers state they have as many or more ways to customise page display of books and features compared to other readers.

Kobo uses the cover of the book you are currently reading. But someone wrote a script to allow you to use your own images. You'll have to look for the thread.

I'd love it if after a book is marked Finished that the reading stats for the book stop updating. I hate that if I ever open that book again (and change at least 1 page) the stats get updated, it seriously messes with the reading stats. Especially reading minutes per session.

I'd love to have real dictionaries like Kindle or Sony have. Kobo dictionaries are ridiculously poor.

You can load your own custom dictionaries on to Kobo, there are some here on the forums. I don't believe either Kindle or Sony offers that. So yes it'd be nice to see the built in dictionary replaced, at least we can replace it.

Not sure about Sony, but for Kindles, you can add as many dictionaries as you'd like, and use them all with your books. You can only have one set as the default, but when you look up a word from within a book, it looks in the default dictionary, and there is a dropdown so you can choose to get a definition from other dictionaries as well. For instance, my default is The New Oxford American Dictionary, but I may occasionally want to look up a certain word using a different dictionary. (like if I am reading with wifi off and find a word in german, I can choose the german-english translation dictionary from the dropdown list)

If for some reason I decide that the many dictionaries that come with my Kindle aren't enough, I can buy more and add them to my Kindle, and use them in addition to the ones that come with it.

hmm, I know you can download dictionaries from Kobo for additional translations. Not sure if you can or can't just add more additional ones. I just installed the websters dictionary that's over in the custom dictionaries thread, I've not been disappointed by it, though I tend to read fiction rather than technical non-fiction.

Hello there,

I've two suggestions :

First, about the page controls: it lacks some usefull configurations (for me), as having forward on full top and full middle, backward in lower left and right and menu in lower center. And why not having the 9 zones fully configurable by user ?

Secundly, the caesura is only active when we are in justification mode, and disabled in the others (off or left alignement). I think it may be convenient to allow the user to enable or disable it in any mode.

Thanks

I'd like Table of Contents to be a single touch action. When I touch the <-> icon, I would like the table of contents to be displayed above the current info, rather than having to follow the link.

Also, if I have the page count set as 'per chapter' it would be nice if the page count in the <-> link would display the page count in the book. Or if I choose per book, <-> should show per chapter. Currently, it's just duplicate info.

It seems I can reach Kobo guys from here. You recently entered Turkish market, that is great. But you have one very important missing feature. There is no turkish hyphenation. Turkish is a language with extensive agglutination, so hyphenation is very important.

I have made a hyphenation dictionary, it works in Kobo too. I have been sharing it here and on Turkish forums. It is all in GPL. I hope you can use it in future firmwares too: https://github.com/Slyneth/hunspell-hyphenation-turkish

I mainly use the annotations when reading Spanish books and I like to mark words (with context) that I don't understand and look up in the included dictionary. Both in the Sp-Sp and the Sp-En. The problem is that after finishing the book I don't remember the translation when looking at the saved markup.

It would be a nice possibility, when looking up a word, to be able to include in the annotation field the translation information about the specific and marked up word that was looked up while reading the book. In this way it would be easy to, after finishing the book, repeat and learn from the annotation list. As is now I forget about the translation after finishing the book and when looking in the markup list, I have to look up the word again.

One solution could be that when looking up a word, one can also choose to add the translation as a annotation to the specific and highlighted word. And that it also stores the whole phrase in which the lookuped word exists.

And of course, the ability to use ADE on the device, so that one can borrow books from public librarys directly to the device when needed, for example, when travelling etc. As now I can only download the ascm file, but not the book itself
