Even if you are paying with cash and didn't plan to buy another ebook for a whole year, the amount of interest you would lose by having the £1.14 refund sitting in your Kobo account as a credit instead of in your bank account earning (say) 3% interest would be about £0.03, much less than the £0.42 you saved by using the price match.
Geoff, I want to thank you for all the effort you put into your various posts where you calculate out the advantages/disadvantages of situations. Numeracy is not a strong point of mine, and your contributions have done so much of the ground work for me.

I understand.

I use Kobo gift cards so the credit just gets added back.

I realize the month isn't over, but this is the first time in ages [years!?] that Kobo hasn't had a contest. Generally they run once a month, usually ending at the end of the month, so this is a first I believe.

I guess we knew it would happen sooner or later. It just surprises me they're doing it now, I figured they would have ended it the end of 2015 and seeing as they had a contest in January, just assumed they'd continue the tradition.

Oh well. More Amazon buys for me then.

Yeah, it's hard to tell whether kobo has ceased doing the Contests, or if it's a stuff up.

If I valued my time at £10 per hour then most books would cost me about £100 to read, and I probably wouldn't be concerned about paying a few pounds more or less for the ebook itself, let alone the few seconds it takes to fill out the price match form.

Edit: Sorry if that sounded a bit short, it is fair enough to consider the time needed to get a discount, convert the book format, fix the mistakes in the book, etc. But unless I've foregone earning money to spend that time (e.g. taken time off work to do it) then I'm not sure it makes sense to assign it a money value and count it as a loss.

Yes, but only after I complained publicly on their Facebook wall. Emails and private messages on Facebook got no response. So the key is to go public; that gets a response.

Josie could you tell me what book it is? I like MM romances with suspense and mystery in them.

I just checked my library. I think the last contest was at the end of January. And then we got 50% off a few days later, Jan 31st. So it's really hard to complain. My average discount in Kobo contests is 35%, there are some stray 55%, but 60 and higher? I honestly have a better chance at bumping into Ben Affleck downtown Boston. I would rather they do another store wide sale.

The Mermaid Murders by Josh Lanyon, more crime thriller than romance but I thought it was very good.

If you like Paranormal or historical I can recommend everything by KJ Charles. She is an amazing author.
