Books you gave up on ever being ebooks

Hum, interesting. I might try one or two of his books that he does have in Kindle. A surprising number of classic history books are making their way out as ebooks.

I've purchased most of his books that are available on ebook. But for whatever reason, these three books aren't. Years ago I read Thomas Costain's three book trilogy of the Plantagenets first published in the 40's and 50's. I paid over $130 for them at a local bookstore. Then I joined Audible, and they had them. They were the first audio books I ever listened to.

One of the first audible books that I got was Roberts' History of the World (48 hours of audio!), read by Frederick Davidson. He did a good job. I probably need to pick up his history of Europe.

This discussion peaked my interest because I have a lot of non library friends that ask me what will happen to the library when all the books are available as eBooks and can be taken out from anywhere at anytime without a physical library. And my first thought was my reading list for this year of which only half the books are available in paper to start with and only about 15% of the entire list is available as an eBook through my library.

It ain't happening soon and the list of books I fear will never be an eBook has not gone down much over the last few years.

I guess what happens to the library at that point will depend on the imagination of the librarians. In the past they've always found interesting ways to be useful.

However, it's starting to seem more likely that paper books aren't going away and libraries will still be of interest to people who like paper books.

They're listed for pre-order on Amazon and Kobo for 9.99 each (8.69 for Kobo VIP). The publisher is Mysterious Press/Open Road so presumably they'll be discountable at Kobo.

Then on March 15 there will be fourteen mysteries by Barbara Paul -- same publisher and prices. I hope there'll be another decent multi-use coupon around.

for the Lockridge books, but definitely will have to wait for a coupon or the price to drop - $9.99, or even $8.69, is WAY too much for backlist titles. Open Road does tend to put the backlist authors that they publish "en masse" on sale from time to time, as they have done with most Catherine Aird titles at various times, so I'll be keeping a sharp look out!

$31 is reasonable enough for a specialist academic text such as this.

Hmmmm....although I don't remember specifically where I bought my DTB copy, it would have been at an ordinary B&M bookstore back in the days when such things existed, not at an academic bookstore, since I didn't live near enough to any academic bookstore to shop there (or pay academic bookstore prices). It would have likely been on the "World History" shelf or something like that, since I mostly read mysteries and history. I was expecting this to be priced more like Peter Fay's The Opium War (Kindle US $16.19) or Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel (Kindle US $10.49) or Collapse ($15.99).

Still going to wait for the 90% coupon, or maybe I'll just find and sacrifice my own DTB copy to scan.

In addition to the March 8th ones there are now another dozen scheduled for March 29th. I'll probably get the first one right away to make sure I still enjoy it. Then I'll try to wait for good coupons for the rest (I'm not as good as I should be about waiting).

I'd love to see the Emma Lathens too.
