There's a catch-22 at play in this scenario. With a book that's not very expensive, the discount isn't worth the time it takes, but for a pricey book, the cash outlay is significant. You get it back in the long run, but there's still the hit up front.

Based on the start date of last month's contest, I think it will start this week.

Kobo's latest sale 30% off select books using code 30FEB. I haven't tried it on a book not on the list.

I tried it on several coupon eligible books not on the list and it didn't work. It did work when I tested it on a book on the list.

I didn't find anything on the mystery list, except a great majority of authors unknown to me.

A few mystery authors in the Kobo US version of the sale that might be worth taking a look at, depending on how your tastes run. As Lynx-lynx said though, mostly pretty slim pickings. And, sadly most of the ones to my taste I already have, but that's the way it goes. Anyway, here's my odd-ball list of what I'd get if I didn't already have them (and two I did get).

(Not providing links, since they are all accessible via the sale link a couple of posts above; prices before the 30%)

A Witness Above by Andy Straka is the first in his Frank Pavlicek series and was a finalist for a bunch of awards when it came out. $4.99

Blanche Among the Talented Tenth is the second of four books in the Blanche White series by Barbara Neely. This series has never made it to the top of my TBR pile, but I have a girlfriend who liked it back in DTB days. $4.99

The Thames River Murders is the latest in the Captain Lacey historical series by Ashley Gardner (pen name for Jennifer Ashley or vice versa???). I am quite fond of this series, and bought this title when it came out not too long ago. $2.99

Lover Man is the first in the three-book-short Artie Deemer series by Dallas Murphy, although it maybe should be called the Jellyroll series since Deemer lives off his dog Jellyroll's appearances in commercials. $3.99

Ice Blue is the first in the Anthony Hetheridge/Kate Wakefield series by Emma Jameson, another series I'm quite fond of (so, of course, I already have it). $3.99

Sleeping Dog is the first of two titles featuring Serendipity Dahlquist and Leo Bloodworth, by Dick Lochte. It won a Nero award and was a finalist for a bunch of others. I think I might try this one, especially since it's set in Los Angeles, where I live. $4.99

The Juan Doe Murders is the third of three Samantha “Smokey” Brandon books by Noreen Ayres - also set in southern California, this time in Orange County. I've read and liked the first two in this series, so will give this one a try. $2.99

Sweets Galore is the sixth Samantha Sweet title by Connie Shelton. I've not read any of these, but another girlfriend, who lives in New Mexico where these are set, has read a few and liked them. $4.99

Anyway, JMTCW...

No contest for February?

Maybe Kobo have not fix up the issue from the last contest where some of the contest codes did not work.

I only read MM romance. Unless it's a contest the sales never have those books in them even though there are plenty of books in the genres they feature. I'm after one coming out on Monday, it's a thriller/mystery novel, costs £4.16 on Kobo or £3.44 on Amazon. Guess I'm getting it from Amazon.

then why not use Kobo's price match and get it for £3.02? No promo code needed.

You can try submitting a price match on Kobo unless you find a promo code first.

I'm not that bothered, and I'd rather have the smaller payment than a kobo price match in store credit. Regardless of where I get it the book ends up in Calibre.

If you are paying by credit card then you should have 30-55 days to pay without incuring any interest cost, so if you plan to buy another ebook in that time you would have used your credit before the payment is due and so you won't have lost anything at all by accepting store credit instead of a lower initial price.

Even if you are paying with cash and didn't plan to buy another ebook for a whole year, the amount of interest you would lose by having the £1.14 refund sitting in your Kobo account as a credit instead of in your bank account earning (say) 3% interest would be about £0.03, much less than the £0.42 you saved by using the price match.
