Increases had to happen. Who do you think have to pay for the $15/hr demands? Gotta to come somewhere & then there is pay differentials that has to go up. 4 or 5 yrs ago, I saw an ad posted for a manager of Jack-in-the-box which had the salary at $34,000; at $15/hr that is around $31,000. Being the manager isn't worth the difference.

Then the deal with USPS. Does the postal worker get 1-1/2 pay or 2 times pay for Sunday deliveries; same for Saturday service? I even had a USPS delivery not done because the address "wasn't readable"; except the package was part of the SAME order that got split & the other part was delivered the previous day; the undeliverable package got delivered the next day..

Everything is going up except my SS payment.

Well yeah it's a kind of customer lock in if you already pay Amazon something for the privilege for buying from them you are unlikely to go to other sources.

Not at all. No one joins prime unless they already expect they would get value from it, and in utterly no sense is it "paying for the privlidge of buying from them"
And I don't know any prime customers who would hesitate to buy elsewhere if it was a better deal.
Does having Prime encourage us to check Amazon first? I should hope so. It is a loyalty program. That is kind of Amazon's point in offering it

Yeah. The whole, "paying for the privilege to buy" thing is nonsense. The free shipping and Prime Video alone are worth the price of admission to me (and I don't order all that much anymore).

I don't always buy from Amazon, but I do check there first. I'm almost always going to go with the "fulfilled and shipped by Amazon" security blanket, though, if the cheaper option is someone I've never done business with before (and the savings are meager).

I'm not a brainwashed idiot. Prime saves me money and I'm getting more than enough value out of my admission price for it. I'll drop it as soon as I can't say that anymore. People need to stop implying that Prime members are somehow being tricked into paying for something that has no real value.

When I think of the time I used to spend back in the free-shipping-for-$25 days, finding stuff (that I might not have bought anyway, or certainly wouldn't have bought yet) to bring me up to $25! It was the increase to $35 that pushed me to Prime. I don't get that much value from any of the add-ons, but it's still worth it for the free shipping. See, click, mine in two days. No time or money spent on more stuff to get not-so-free shipping.

All I'll say is that $100 is an important psychological price point and if Prime goes up also by more than a trivial sum it'll be the proverbial rock and the hard place. I'd probably give up Prime and won't shop that much at Amazon.

Once you get into the habit of checking first on Amazon when you need to buy something ... anything ... Prime free shipping more than pays for itself, especially in eliminating trips to the mall. For me, having a 20 pound bag of cat litter delivered to my door every 2 weeks is more than worth the fee. Free Sunday delivery was a pleasant surprise.

And now, I find I live in the new "Same Day Delivery" zone -- haven't explored what is available yet ... but this is getting very close to 'instant gratification.'

Completely agreeing with you. The first thought when we joined Prime was is it worth the . $8.34 a month. Quick answer, yes. The videos were the selling point for us.
That two day shipping was very nice when we needed running boards for our truck.

Just an FYI - remember, you can add other family members to prime. I'm a subaccount on my brother's account (he's handicapped and can't go out shopping, so has many things delivered via Amazon).

It does make shopping in multi-account, multi-device household a lot simpler.

Also remember, though, the subaccounts get only the shipping benefit, not Prime Video or the Kindle stuff.

Last year they reduced the number of people you can share with but increased the benefits that can be shared. Video streaming and Kindle Library are shareable:
