I just put 2 loaves of Chocolate Zuccini bread in the oven. It's snowing here so will take Willow out for a romp as she loves being out in this kind of weather..me?..not so much.

Contemplating whether to change my telephone and broadband provider from BT and my satellite provider from Sky, and moving it all across to Virgin Media. I'm pretty much decided, as the savings are significant and the TiVo technology looks better than the Sky+ box.

Of course, there is a downside, which is the change of email address and phone number, both of which I've had for 15 years plus, and the email address is very embedded in our lives. All of those on-line accounts to change...

For what it's worth, I made the exact opposite move a while back

Based on ridiculously poor customer service from Virgin and the fact that not all the Sky Sports channels are available in HD via Virgin. In my experience, the BT broadband seems more reliable and faster than the Virgin was.

Well Virgin are now publishing speeds of up to 200 Mbps, and BT of up to 78Mbps. Everything I have researched suggests they are faster overall. Also I have no interest in Sky Sports channels.

Finishing my last tea of the day and preparing to take our son out to dinner -- yesterday was his birthday! (Plans to drive back to his school tomorrow are being postponed until Tuesday. Monday evening, when we'd be driving, is supposed to be a transition from snow to freezing rain, to rain. Tuesday isn't going to be a bargain -- heavy rain all day long -- but it will be warm enough that ice shouldn't be a problem. There are a couple of bridges along the way that I would not want to negotiate in wet, near-freezing weather!)

Today I started Operation Desk. Until now cleaning up my desk meant stacking things nicely, however at the end of the week I'm getting my electronic die cutting machine and that thing needs a lot of space.

Today I cleaned the shelf thing around my monitor. Most things on the shelf over the monitor I hadn't touched in years. It's now cleared and I've got a lot of space, over the week some things from my desk will move onto that shelf.

Tomorrow I'll take care of the right side of my craft desk and on Wednesday I deal witht he left side. Meanwhile I need to think what to do with my paper scraps. Currently they are all together in a small wooden box on my desk, but that just doesn't work and it takes up too much space.

Fair enough - I can only tell you my experience.

If you have no interest in the Sky Sports channels, I guess there's no reason not to choose Virgin (and, on a very few occasions, Sky's satellite reception gets ropey in very bad weather - no such issues with Virgin's cable).

Whew! Long day .... Stella cat decided I should get up at 6 am on a Saturday. Then had to take Goldie cat to the vet - her colitis had flared up. Then groceries to buy. Then (finally!) putting the 'no slip' strips on our new back steps - needed 2 days without rain and temps over 40 F. Then my after dinner walk. Now for a night of quiet reading.

We just got word from my aunt that my grandmother isn't doing very well. Everyone's now preparing so we can leave asap. If/when my grandmother dies I'm afraid of what will happen with the Family Thing that's been going on since 2013. It'll be brought to a whole new level and I suspect that's what my uncle has been waiting (and at times stalling) for.

Yesterday it looked like my grandmother was doing a lot better. On Sunday, although she kept looking at the people around her bed, she didn't react when you moistened her lips. Yesterday she not only licked her lips when moistened, but she also drank water, ate most of an ice cream, a bowl of apple sauce and some porridge. But around 5.30am the phone rang this morning and then you know the news isn't good.

During the night she took a turn for the worse and my father, and most likely my aunt, are with her now. Again, they don't expect her to be with us for much longer.

I'm only hoping for it to be quick. Two months ago she celebrated her 94th birthday and she's got very advanced dementia. She enjoyed the day, especially seeing her youngest great-granddaughter, but she would have forgotten about all of it as soon as everyone left.

With all that has happened in the past two and a half years I doubt there will be any calm heads. I just hope my uncle (who is my grandmother's curator) will allow us to be at her funeral and not ban my father and aunt from her deathbed.

I am so sorry to hear this Rumplteazer. I hope you & your family can be with your grandmother too. I'm sure it would be what she would want, to have all her children & grandchildren there. Your father will be under a lot of stress, grieving for his mother when the time comes, and all the other problems that your uncle has created. Perhaps you can take walks with him and let him talk about anything at all, just listen and walk. It may help with his stress.
