Amazon Raises Free Shipping Minimum to $49
Amazon really wants everyone to become Prime members. Raising free shipping minimums from $35 to $49 is quite a jump. Free shipping for Prime and add-on orders is not affected by this change.

The last time Amazon raised their free shipping requirement was October 2013, when it from $25 to $35. Grr! Still won't get me to join prime. This will just mean I will order less often from them.

Since I will have to save up orders to get the free shipping there will be less implulse buying.

So, they decided to let pbooks actually be special snowflakes...
...at least as far as shipping goes.

The timing is odd--what with fuel prices trending down and the several initiatives they are ramping up to do a lot of their shipping themselves.

It does seem like a push to get more shoppers to sign up for Prime...but Prime doesn't need much pushing for repeat customers. Even at $35 the math argued for subscription.

Could be a move to pacify stockholders worried about their rising shipping costs...

Must've produced acceptable results if they're bringing it across the pond.

Exactly. Amazon is still my first port of call, but I've placed a few orders elsewhere since they put it up to £20 in the UK (previously £10, although as already pointed out, its still £10 for books). I will try and save up orders, but only after I've looked to see if they are competitively priced elsewhere first, and if so, I'll just buy it elsewhere. And you can't impulse buy if you have to add other stuff to qualify for free delivery....

Not surprising. Shipping has gotten a lot more expensive over the last few years, with UPS and FedEx going to dimensional weight. I was looking to eBay some of my stuff last year, and when I saw what it was costing to ship the items I wanted to sell, I just kept them, they weren't worth what it would have cost to ship them anywhere.

I used to buy a lot from Amazon they were my first stop would usually just place the order if they had it. When they raised limit to 35 in 2013 wasnt a big deal. But instead of going to Amazon and just ordering I would check around first. I found myself ordering quite a bit less because I was finding things cheaper or being offered free shipping elsewhere.

Now the limits being raised again and so no biggs for me Ill save it elsewhere even more.

Same here. I mostly only buy a few digital items from them as it is. I think this is wrong-headed on Amazon's part. I'll just buy more from Ebay and Best Buy.

I noticed this when I was putting together some items for purchase today after letting my Prime lapse. I shrugged and wandered over to eBay instead. The items cost less, and I still got free shipping. Thanks, Amazon!
