My i86 Plus does not show any app name in the "open with" list. It was advertised to handle .cbr and .cbz natively but I can't find the way to open it. I have to do work around by covert my manga to other file format.

Thank you in advance.
I am using the paid version of Comic rack.
The native reader will handle small .cbz comics, but not if the pictures are compressed to .png, which many of mine are.

I'm a quite avid reader of manga in cbz/ cbr format. I have one Kobo Glo (with cbz/ cbr support) and a rooted PRS-T1 (that I've Perfect Viewer installed).

Reading manga in my Kobo's perfectly fine on its own if the writing/ drawing's quite big. I often find myself reading manga in my T1 instead, mostly because of the Perfect Viewer that allow easier zooming (zooming is rather tiring in Kobo) anytime I want to see the small writings & it's ability to turn double-page to separate page.

Kobo's really nice to read cbz/ cbr files still, but I suggest to take ones with bigger screen.

Can you give some examples of what titles you are reading that need to be zoomed in? I find most manga is OK for me on 6" device because that isn't too much smaller than a regular manga digest, and typically manga are paced so there aren't too many words per panel and per page.

I'm also surprised that zoom/pan is comfortable and convenient on a display that updates as slowly as eink (I love PV on my Nexus 9... wish there was a Windows port too).

Hello, I'm so sorry replying this so late. I hadn't realised that someone replied to this comment.

I read quite a few detective and psychological mangas, sometime they have wall of text for expositions, those parts are not really comfortable to read in small prints. (also I have installed koreader in my Kobo, it's easier to read manga there now. Downside is that you need to close the manga after you finish reading it. Not automatically closed like in nickel)

There's an option to zoom in PV, so I'll zoom just for the page with those long text . I think panning in e-ink is rather cumbersome too.

Ah yes, I can see how something so text-heavy would be more comfortable to read while zoomed in. I've actually just been reading some manga on my Nexus 9 lately, and it feels like the proportions are off. The screen is just a little bit too big. I think somewhere around 7 to 8 inches would be perfect, so I guess the iPad Mini or Kobo Aura HD size would be perfect... Must resist buying more devices

The new Onyx 13.3" Reader would be best for reading manga.

...in your opinion. Obviously radius feels that an 8" reader would be best for him or her.

I have a Surface Pro 3 and it's screen is almost exactly the same size as a standard American comic book (ie: very large compared to a typical manga digest). If you don't mind the feeling of the page looking blown up then twelve inches or more might be comfortable for you. I personally find that off putting.

LCD is different than eInk. The two don't compare.

Hi Jon, I'm glad you've found a reading platform that suits you.

As a lifelong comics and manga reader, and coming up on my tenth anniversary reading close to exclusively on e-ink devices, I have a good idea how I like to read manga.

I'm curious why you think LCD vs eink has any bearing on the screen size that is most comfortable? Are you saying that eink is inherently more soothing and therefore you can get away with a screen that is smaller or larger than ideal?

I didn't start this LCD vs. eInk. In fact, I suggested a 13.3" eInk screen based Reader.

Both best and acceptable are subjective (i.e., they are relative to a person's own standards). If you are speaking strictly rendering quality, then YES I agree that manga/manhwa looks best on a 13.3-inch Mobius display. However, if you are talking about the overall reading experience, then you'd have to take into consideration the device's weight and ergonomics; and in this case some people will find that something lighter and easier to handle would be better. IMHO the perfect cbz reader would be a Kindle Oasis bloated to 9.7" with Zingbox as a native app ^_^.

On a related note, there's also the Good e-Reader 13.3" on Indiegogo:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/1...droid-e-reader

They claim it's better than the Onyx Boox Max in that it supports touch as well as stylus input, and they will update Android to 5.1.1 since the stretch goal has been reached.

13.3" would be too big for manga actually. Kobo Aura H2O has similar dimensions as manga volumes. I think, 8" would be the ideal size, magazines are usually bigger.
