FW 5.3.x - 5.7.x Fonts Hack

Caecilla condensed is so awful. Who thought that was a good idea? Why not have Times Roman or Georgia or something?

So, installed the new hack on my KV 5.7.2 JB.

Everything still working as it should, OpenDyslexic is back, and I now have the following :
Baskerville ==> Merriweather
Bookerly
Helvetica ==> Trebuchet
Palatino ==> Charis
Publisher Font
Futura
Caecilia. This will go next, I will try to see which of my fonts to use (tricky because some fonts I had to modify myself with FontForge so I am not sure yet)
Caecilia Condensend ==> Fontin
OpenDyslexic

All working perfectly well. Bravo NiLuJe, great job again !!

It may be Charis SIL Compact as the font name.

Right now I'm using this font hack on my KPW2 (FW 5.4.5.1): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...postcount=1431 it doesn't really changes the fonts as this one seems to do (if you want to) but it does change the relative size between each of the font sizes that you can select from the Aa menu, meaning that the jump in font size from each of the Aa options isn't as dramatic as it is in stock kindle and I can better fine tune the font size to my liking. Is there an option to do this using this hack? I'm considering updating to the new 5.7.X firmware at some point and I doubt that my old hack (which is labeled temporary in the post) will work.

@rpgmaker: Yes, but you'll have to handle things manually. There are example configs for this, since it's basically needed if you want consistent font sizes when mixing TTF and CFF fonts.

I don't care about doing it manually, in fact I'd rather do so, is there any post on how to do this? I read the initial post and it only showed how to do things using KUAL (I don't have KUAL at the moment).

On a sidenote, KUAL is a required dependency (of basically everything) with FW >= 5.5.x, since you need it to install packages.

Does that method work on the default kindle fonts or just on the fonts in the fonts hack 'fonts' folder? How would I go about fine tuning the 'matrix' to my liking or where is the doc about it? Judging from this post here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...4&postcount=11 do I have to change only the elements with numbers other than 0 (per your example)?

As for the docs, not much in there besides reminding me that I suck at maths .

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

PW2 (5.6.5)

I followed all the instructions in the OP, and it even shows that the fonts have been replaced in kual, However, for some reason, when I select a book, it doesn't use the new font even though I did the font override. It just uses the old one, and I restarted the framework and X server. What could I be doing wrong?

What format are the books?
I.E: What are the file extensions of the filename?

@knc1: Ooh, good point, I never restart the KFX reader.

That said, an X restart *will* restart it, so, not a terrible oversight.

On 5.6.5, is there any way to change Baskerville, Palatino, Caecilla?

There's five menu items in kual font overrides: serif, sans, mono, condensed, fallback.

I have changed:
Serif (which maps to Bookerly)
Condensed (which maps to Caecilla condensed)

I understand it may not be safe to change the Sans font.
