Tweaks renumbering books

Hi,
maybe this is a tread already discussed, but I've not found it.
The problem is that, when I select several books and I try to modify the Group metadata assigning to all books the same series, Calibre assign to all also the same serial number (1).
In the Tweaks section I tried "first free" and "next free", but the result is the same.
There is a way to force Calibre to assign to each book a progressive number, even using any "empty" number, i.e. not yet assigned or from a removed book?
I know that by assigning a number to a book at a time works well, but when you have to work on a large number of books is a little exhausting.
Many thanks.
Best regards,
Gianni
P.s. I work with latest Calibre 64bit version and Windows 10

Look at the Manage Series plug in. It has a lot of nice options

Isn't there an option for this already on the Basic Metadata Tab when selecting multiple books?

Automatically Number / Start from etc.?

Yes and No.

That only controls during the ADD (tha is done by a Tweak setting)
Bulk MDE is more limited (simple) than the PI

The Manage Series PI allows total manipulation of the series[n] field
(name and index) for the selected group of books

I'm sure you can manipulate these any time (edit metadata) and not necessarily just during the add process.

I've occasionally had need to re-number books after a bulk add/edit has gone wrong.

Unless we're talking about something else.

.
see my second point above because:

You asked for a Bulk way
You asked for something that worked on an Existing Library
