Kobo Glo problem
Hi, I have a kobo glo that has a problem. It's is stuck at "battery is almost dead", 0% battery remain. I've tried all reset and I've charge it for days, nothing changed, the display is stuck at this pop-up....
So, I've tried to follow this guide, an user gave me his .img and I've written it to the formatted micro sd (I've used the original 2gb micro sd card that was in the kobo, is it a problem?). Then there is a problem with this passage: Quote:
So, what I have to do? I have to buy a new sd? I could try with Ubuntu? Or probably is it not a problem of the micro sd but of the kobo? HELP ME PLEASE, sorry for my bad english! |

Are you sure the original problem was an SD card problem, not a charging or cable problem or a broken screen?

Is the LED flashing, when you connect the USB cable or paperclip button or holding the power switch for 20 sec twice.
If the LED flash and the screen stay the same "battery is almost dead", you probably have a broken screen, can you post a picture of screen. |

I notice that the usb connector is disconnected, now I've formatted the sd and I have the problem to extend the unallocated partition, is it a problem?

But there is a bigger problem. The problem was that the usb connector was broken (I'll post a pic). So, what could I do? |

There is a 10MB area at the beginning of the card that appears unallocated, but the device actually uses this area directly, so don't overwrite it. The only reason to extend the user data partition is if you have written the image to a larger card and there is unused space at the end of the card.

You can solder USB cable, cut the cable in half and solder the wires
Or use micro-USB port. Spoiler:
V-Red(+) Grounding-Black(-) RX TX are the data, i almost certain that TX is green (d+), RX is white(d-). Make sure that the wires don't touch each other or the board. |

You could use something like this. And connect it to the port in the spoiler. But those TTL Serial ports are mostly connected to IC devices (like power management IC, IO IC, ect...) They often provide error out for the functional components. There should be one on the board that should work though.

Maybe you can find someone in your area who has soldered such USB ports before... phones use the same kind of port so maybe some repair shop that actually does soldering work? Not sure if it can be saved, it looks rather cooked in your picture.
As long as the device itself still works you could ignore the port, find some external means to re-charge the battery and copy books through wifi or SD-card... Or you could just sell it to someone who likes to tinker. |
