Thank you Branch Delay, NiLuJe, knc1, eschwartz and all the mobileread community.

I jailbreaked my PW3 S/N G090 G105 Spanish language friday night with the Kindlefere link and copying both the jb file and NiLuJe hotfix beforehand, everything seems to be working fine and I'm now on fw 5.7.2, however I did run into an issue when jailbreaking...

When I got the message that the jailbreak was successful I forgot to turn airplane mode ON, then I tried to apply the hotfix but the update message was grey out. I connected the Kindle to my laptop and copied the file again and after removing the Kindle for the laptop I noticed most of the screen was blank except for the top menu bar. After a while I tried to turn off the screen but it just went all white and after several seconds all black. Then it rebooted on it's own, I applied the hotfix and that was it.

I was wondering what could have caused it (probably something I did wrong) and if I should be worried about having problems with my device later on because of this.

I do not know why it rebooted, but chances are the hotfix was deleted by the Kindle Updater when it failed verification (before the jailbreak).

@kalyy: What you're describing looks like the UI (and then X) crashing and restarting.

I vaguely remember that occasionally happening when initially playing with @BD initial tests. Probably an unlucky side effect of the browser crash.
Harmless, provided you don't let it happen too much between hard reboots (because that'd mean a trip to the YKNR screen).

Although the O.P. did not say how long the power button was held down.

True - the 5.6.x firmware should put up a three choice panel at that point - but with the display state as described, the O.P. probably didn't see it.

The screen cycling is a normal "shutting down the display" series.

At least that is how I read it.

Yes, just delete the jailbreak certificate.

But since it is inert (if you don't use hacks, the jailbreak doesn't bother anything), I cannot fathom why you would want to un-jailbreak your Kindle.

Best way, use it.

You will need to install KUAL and MrPI (a KUAL extension) -
Those are not shipped as model locked update_*.bin packages, just in compressed archives.

Everything else (other than KUAL extensions) will be in model locked and crypto signed packages -
If you can put one of those for your device in /mrpackages and install it with the KUAL -> Helper -> Install button -
All is good.

. Although I don't think if we ever get to X's black screen when doing a hard-reboot, which is what led me to believe in a X restart

I just checked on my PW-3 - -
Hold the power button down and ignore (or not be able to see) that pop-up panel and it will 'reset' the screen and then re-boot -
Just as described.

I don't know how the screen got trashed in the first place -
but there could be just about anything on the stack when the crash is triggered.

(That is the only thing about doing a factory reset first that I can think of -
to get the stack into a known state.)

I checked - the same webkit/javascript problem is in the PW-1 firmware.
Perhaps someone will have the time to edit the 5.6.5 JB for the 5.6.1.1 firmware (I know I don't have the time).

I successfully installed the JB without doing any DNS/hostname fussing. I just uploaded the HTML files to my own webserver, connected to WiFi on my Kindle and followed the other instructions. Does anyone know what the idea of changing the hostname to "a" is, because if my website and kindlefere and so on work, it seems unnecessary - but maybe something else is going on?

Can I now upgrade to firmware 5.7.2 in manual mode I suppose?

If you want, do so now before adding anything else.
That could save you repeating the work after the update.
What you have now (JB, KUAL, MrPI) will all survive the update.
