@Signum98: if you indeed did a framework restart after toggling cover mode, then one/all of your custom images aren't in the right format, in which case, see my previous message

I was happy with the screensaver hack success being displayed, so I updated to 5.7.2 (PW3) and now it's gone. It won't even show that anymore. I'm not too concerned for it though. The stock SSs are fine i guess. Is this normal?

Yes, updating the firmware breaks any hack that hooks into the rootfs.

Anything more than a simple KUAL extension will need to be reinstalled. |

I tried to copy the bin file but when I eject and attempt an update, the option is grey. When I connect to the computer and see, it turns out the file gets deleted. Should I paste the uninstall bin first?

I'm having the same issue CalbertAmu is having. This worked perfectly a few months ago when I did it on my KV, but I'm unable to install the python script on my PW2. Update your Kindle gets greyed out and the .bin is deleted as soon as it is ejected.

Linkss works and installs perfectly., but I wanted cover mode more than anything. Serial# B05A 2203 on 5.6.5 with the closed kindle jailbreak. |

No, just reinstall. But I assume if you were able to install it in the first place (on fw5.6.5 no less) then you already know you need to use KUAL + the MrPI extension? |

 1. Extract and copy the contents of kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N.zip (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=251143) to your root folder, eject your kindle and run Kual. 2. Reconnect, copy the Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin to the MRPACKAGES folder on your kindle, eject, and run Kual>Helper>Install MR Packages. 3. Follow the same procedure as step 2 for Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin. Remember if you want cover mode, you have to unplug completely, not just eject, after creating the empty file named cover in the linkss folder before restarting. It seems to lag behind to refresh to a new book cover, but I'm not complaining. Drgonzalez and eschwartz, thank you!

Switching to a previously processed cover is pretty fast, it just has to recognize the ASIN of the current book and use the cached cover.

But extracting a cover for the first time is slower. Usually it doesn't matter, because you are reading the book and it happens behind the scenes but you will notice if you open a new book and then put the Kindle to sleep within ~10-15 seconds it will be stuck on the old cover.EDIT: I guess I was (partially) wrong? See NiLuJe's authoritative answer below... Last edited by eschwartz; 02-08-2016 at 10:34 AM. |

Just put them all in /mrpackages at the same time - then do the KUAL -> Helper -> Install packages thing just one time. |

There's at minimum a 10s (15s for periodicals) wait before opening a book and the hack even attempting to check what the db has to say about which book was just opened.

That's unfortunately needed, because it's roughly the time it takes on a Touch, on cold caches, for the db itself to get updated by the framework. It's a basically a trade-off between latency and false positives, and I chose accuracy

I wonder if you could add debug features -

Options to add text overlay that states: 1) current picture # 2) errors, if any. It would help a lot on figuring what picture does not work!
