5.6.5 Jailbreak (closed-kindle) -- released!

At this point everything worked fine. I then upgraded my Voyage with the latest Amazon firmware (5.7.2) and found that the Screensaver Hack no longer worked. The Jailbreak and KUAL were intact. I reinstalled the Screensaver Hack while under FW 5.7.2 (step 4. above) and everything now works fine.

I had same issue so I tried to use packages from "Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225030 and it works. (regarding logfiles there was issues with kindle version or something like that)

I don't know how to quote, but I got the files(the jb folder) onto the root of my Kindle. kindlefere.com/jb/ doesn't show up on the Kindle's browser. It says 'There was a problem loading this page' Should I be copying the html files alone, or the whole folder? I'll try individual files

EDIT: Works, but browser crashes at stage 2, and doesn't say jailbreak succeeded either

EDIT: I jailbroke without Factory Resetting. Why is it necessary? Kindle is somewhat slower, I guess

Actually, wireshark will reveal the differences between a failed attempt and a successfull attempt.

All you have to do is get wireshark in-between your AP and your Internet modum (not always easy or even possible with some set-ups).

For my PW2 (german language; S/N 9017 2201...) the jailbreak worked with kindlefere.com/jb.

Beeing a newbie I've got some questions (hope for your help):

I read in the thread about some files like:

1. NiLuJe’s hotfix (Update_jailbreak_bridge_1.14.N_install.bin)

2. KUAL (KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2)

3. Mobile Package Installer [aka. MRPI] (kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N.zip)

4. NiLuje’s Screensaver Hack (Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin) and (Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin)

Where can I find them? Is there a help for beginners, for what exactly the files are for?

(If possible I would like eg. to make notes and play chess on my divice - this are some of the things, why I wanted to jailbreak it)

I would be glad, if you could help me!

I didn't factory reset, either, but I only had 2 or 3 books on the device at the time. My device is not slower.

No.
They where (and still are at this moment) serving exact copies of the jb.zip server side files.

The side discussion here is about this java script/webkit browser fault being mis-used (a subjective term).

Hello, i have a few questions for you. I've never jailbrake anything by the way.

1. Can I return to 100% stock (unroot) my Kindle or it's irretrievably?
2. Can I install a custom screensaver without JP thing? Honestly this is all I need.
3. Can I JB 5.7.2 device? Is it possible to downgrade?

I'm still on 5.6.5 but i'm not sure. Should I JB my Kindle only for screensavers. I can convert anything I want. Thanks in advance!

2. No. And you need a few other things to do the custom ss.
3. Not yet. Not yet tested - I have a thread here on that subject.
?? Stay on 5.6.5 - Keep it in Airplane mode while deciding what next.

Just restart your kindle and it will be as right as rain.

I didn't have to factory reset though.

It worked for me.

Now I have a question: I am on 5.6.5 and for me is ok to stay on this firmware. But I would like to have the possiblity to disable ota updates, because I dont know if someday a new firmware kills all "this great work".

I have found workarounds for older firmwares, not for 5.6.x. Is there still a hack or must my kindle stay on airplane mode?

Keep it on airplane mode until we get a chance to test the "OTA blockers" on 5.6.5
